Melee Combat & Dodging
While stealth and ranged attacks are often preferred, Amicia will inevitably find herself in close-quarters combat. Her melee abilities, though not as refined as her ranged skills, are crucial for survival when cornered or when facing overwhelming odds.
- Basic Melee Attacks: Amicia can perform quick, light attacks with her knife. These are best used to interrupt enemy attacks or to finish off weakened foes. Repeatedly mashing the attack button can sometimes overwhelm less experienced guards.
- Heavy Attacks: A charged melee attack can stagger enemies, creating an opening for a follow-up or a chance to escape. Use this strategically when you have a clear opening.
- Dodging: Dodging is your most important defensive maneuver in melee combat. Learn to recognize enemy attack patterns and time your dodges to avoid damage. A well-timed dodge can also create an opening for a counter-attack.
- Parrying: While not as prominent as in some other action games, there are moments where a well-timed block can stagger an enemy, allowing for a quick counter. This is a high-risk, high-reward maneuver.
- Environmental Kills: Look for opportunities to use the environment to your advantage in melee. Pushing enemies into hazards like fires or pits can result in instant kills and save you precious resources.
- When to Engage: Melee combat should generally be a last resort. Only engage in hand-to-hand combat when you have no other option, or when you are confident you can quickly dispatch the enemy without attracting more attention.
- Escaping: If you find yourself outnumbered or outmatched in melee, your primary goal should be to create distance. Use dodges to evade attacks and then sprint away to break line of sight and re-engage with ranged attacks or stealth.
Mastering Amicia's melee capabilities, particularly her dodging, is essential for surviving the brutal encounters that A Plague Tale: Requiem throws at you. Don't underestimate the importance of defensive maneuvers.
