Arm Wrestling
Within the confines of the prison, particularly during free-roam segments in areas like the yard or cafeteria, both Leo and Vincent have the opportunity to engage in a classic test of strength: arm wrestling. This mini-game serves as a lighthearted diversion, offering a chance to interact with the environment and other inmates, or even challenge your co-op partner.
Finding Opponents
Arm wrestling opportunities are not random. You can typically find specific inmates available for a match at designated tables in social areas of the prison. For instance, in the early chapters set within the prison walls, look for tables in the main yard or the cafeteria where other prisoners are gathered. An interaction prompt will appear when you approach an available opponent. You can also challenge your co-op partner, Leo or Vincent, directly if they are near an arm-wrestling table, making it a friendly competition between players.
How to Play: The Quick-Time Event
Once you initiate an arm-wrestling match, either with an NPC inmate or your partner, the game transitions into a simple Quick-Time Event (QTE). The objective is to overpower your opponent by rapidly pressing a designated button. The specific button prompt will appear on-screen, typically:
- PlayStation: Mash the button.
- Xbox: Mash the button.
- PC: Mash the designated action button (often or left-click, depending on control setup).
As you mash the button, you'll see a visual indicator, usually a bar or an on-screen meter, that reflects the current struggle. The faster and more consistently you press the button, the more your side of the meter will fill, pushing your opponent's arm down. Conversely, if your opponent is mashing faster, your arm will be forced downwards.
The match concludes when one player successfully pins the other's arm to the table. There's no complex timing or specific rhythm required; it's purely a test of speed and endurance in button mashing.
Consequences and Rewards
Winning or losing an arm-wrestling match in A Way Out carries no significant in-game consequences or rewards. There are no achievements tied directly to winning, no currency gained, and no impact on the main story progression. The primary purpose of this mini-game is to provide a moment of fun and interaction, fostering the co-op experience between players or simply offering a brief diversion from the main narrative. It's all about the bragging rights between you and your partner, or the satisfaction of besting a virtual inmate.
So, next time you're in the prison yard, don't hesitate to challenge an inmate or your partner to an arm-wrestling showdown. It's a quick, engaging way to test your reflexes and enjoy a small, competitive moment within the game's world.
