Environmental Hazard Survival

The research facility is a hostile environment, riddled with various hazards that can quickly end your survival. From toxic spills and radiation zones to extreme temperatures and unstable structures, you must learn to identify, avoid, and mitigate these dangers to progress.

Environmental hazards are a constant threat in Abiotic Factor. Toxic spills, often found in laboratories and waste disposal areas, can cause rapid health deterioration if you remain in them. Radiation zones, typically found near experimental reactors or containment breaches, inflict damage over time and can have long-term negative effects. Extreme temperatures, such as freezing cold or intense heat, can drain your stamina and health if you're not properly equipped.

Survival against these hazards requires preparation and awareness. Always be on the lookout for warning ss, such as discolored floors, Geiger counter readings, or visible steam. Your multi-tool can often detect hazardous substances. Crafting specialized gear is crucial. For example, gas masks or hazmat suits are essential for navigating toxic areas, while insulated clothing or specialized suits might be needed for extreme temperature zones. Radiation-resistant gear will be vital for exploring irradiated sectors.

When direct avoidance isn't possible, look for ways to mitigate the hazard. You might be able to temporarily neutralize a toxic spill by using a specific chemical or find ways to restore power to heating or cooling systems. Unstable structures can be a danger, but also an opportunity; sometimes collapsing a weak wall can open a new path or create a barrier against enemies. Always carry a sufficient supply of medical items to counteract any damage taken from environmental hazards. Understanding the 'Buffs & Debuffs' system is also key, as some hazards can inflict negative status effects that need to be managed.
