Act I: Blood, Ice, and Steel (Knights of St. John)
This campaign follows the adventures of Morgan Black and his descendants. It's an excellent introduction to the game's mechanics and the unique units of the European civilizations.
Mission 1: «Gathering Storm»
Objective: Establish a Town Center, gather resources, and train units to defend against Ottoman attacks.
- Initial Steps:
- Immediately task your starting Villagers to gather food from nearby berry bushes or hunt animals.
- Send your Explorer to scout the immediate vicinity for treasure chests and native settlements. Treasure chests often contain small amounts of resources or experience points (XP).
- Build a Town Center as soon as possible. Prioritize a location near a reliable food source (e.g., a large herd of deer) and a woodline.
- Continuously train Villagers from your Town Center. Aim for a healthy economy with at least 10-12 villagers on food and 5-7 on wood initially.
- Early Defense:
- The first Ottoman attacks will be light, primarily consisting of Janissaries and Spahi.
- Build a Barracks and train a small force of Musketeers (anti-cavalry) and Pikemen (anti-cavalry, good against Spahi).
- use your Explorer's special abilities, such as the "Attack Dogs" skill, to help defend your base or clear out minor threats.
- Resource Management:
- Keep an eye on your resource counts. Don't let your Town Center sit idle.
- Send a Home City Shipment for 3 Villagers or 700 Food to boost your economy.
- Once you have a stable food income, start assigning villagers to gather coin from gold mines.
- Mid-Game Strategy:
- Expand your base with additional resource drop-off points like Mills (for farms) and Lumber Camps.
- Consider building an Outpost near key choke points or resource patches to provide early warning and defensive fire.
- Age up to the Colonial Age (Age II) as soon as your economy allows to unlock more advanced units and technologies.
Mission 2: «The Pirate's Den»
Objective: Locate and destroy the pirate stronghold, rescue the captured villagers, and secure the treasure fleet.
- Initial Reconnaissance:
- You start with a small force of Musketeers and Pikemen, along with your Explorer.
- Move west along the coastline. You will encounter small groups of pirates. Use your Musketeers to focus fire on enemy units and Pikemen to protect them from any melee threats.
- Locate the first group of captured villagers near a small pirate camp to the northwest. Destroy the camp to free them.
- Establishing a Foothold:
- After rescuing the first villagers, they will join your control. Immediately task them to gather resources.
- Build a Town Center near a good resource patch (food and wood) to establish a forward operating base.
- Prioritize building a Dock on the coastline. You'll need naval units to deal with pirate ships and transport units.
- Naval Superiority:
- Train several Caravels or Galleons from your Dock. Caravels are good for early skirmishes, while Galleons can transport units and have more firepower.
- Use your ships to clear out pirate ships patrolling the waters. Focus fire on one ship at a time.
- Once the sea lanes are clear, use your transport ships to ferry additional units across the water to assault the main pirate stronghold.
- Assaulting the Stronghold:
- The main pirate stronghold is heavily fortified with walls, towers, and several pirate units (Buccaneers, Corsairs).
- Build a Siege Workshop and train a few Culverins or Falconets to break down walls and towers efficiently.
- Send a mixed force of Musketeers, Pikemen, and Hussars (if available) to engage the enemy ground forces. Use Hussars to flank and target enemy artillery or ranged units.
- Focus your artillery fire on defensive structures first, then on enemy unit-producing buildings.
- Securing the Treasure Fleet:
- Once the stronghold is destroyed, the treasure fleet will become accessible. Simply move your units near the ships to secure them and complete the mission.
- Be wary of any remaining pirate stragglers or hidden units that might try to interfere.
