Post-Game Progression & Challenges

Congratulations, Champion! Vanquishing the final threat is just the beginning of your true legend in Age of Mythology: Retold. The post-game offers a wealth of new challenges, opportunities to perfect your divine strategies, and the chance to forge truly legendary artifacts. This section will guide you through maximizing your post-campaign experience.

Ascension Trials: Proving Your Divinity

Upon completing the main campaign, the Ascension Trials unlock, accessible via the "Divine Challenges" tab in your Pantheon menu. These are increasingly difficult, multi-stage scenarios designed to test your mastery of specific gods, myth units, and economic strategies. Each trial has unique modifiers and objectives.

  • Trial of Zeus: Olympian Might: Focuses on rapid expansion and overwhelming military force. Expect waves of powerful enemy units and limited resource nodes.
    • Strategy: Prioritize early Town Center construction and secure multiple gold mines. Utilize Zeus's Bolt and Hades' Sentinels for defensive holds.
    • Reward: Completing this trial on "Heroic" difficulty unlocks the Aegis Shield Fragment, a component for the Legendary Aegis artifact.
  • Trial of Ra: Solar Dominion: Emphasizes economic efficiency and powerful myth unit synergy. You'll face foes with strong anti-human units.
    • Strategy: Maximize farming and fishing early. Use Ra's Prosperity and Isis's Eclipse to boost income and protect your economy. Focus on building powerful Egyptian myth units like Wadjets and Scarabs.
    • Reward: Successfully navigating this trial on "Mythic" difficulty grants the Eye of Ra Gemstone, another critical artifact component.
  • Trial of Odin: Aesir's Fury: Challenges your ability to raid, scout, and adapt to unpredictable enemy tactics. Expect aggressive AI and map-wide events.
    • Strategy: Leverage Odin's Raven for constant scouting. Use Forest Fire and Fimbulwinter to disrupt enemy economies and movements. Focus on raiding with Hersir and Ulfsarks.
    • Reward: Conquering this trial on "Titan" difficulty yields the Gungnir Haft, the final piece for the Legendary Gungnir.

Forging Legendary Artifacts

The true power of the gods can be harnessed through Legendary Artifacts. These are not found as drops but are meticulously crafted at the Divine Forge, located in the "Pantheon Hub" after completing your first Ascension Trial. Each artifact requires specific components and a significant amount of "Divine Essence," a new resource earned from high-difficulty post-game content.

  • The Aegis Shield:
    • Components: Aegis Shield Fragment (Trial of Zeus - Heroic), Gorgon's Scale (Dropped by Medusa Matriarchs in "Labyrinth of Minos" Heroic difficulty), Adamantine Ore (Found in "Volcanic Veins" random map generation, very rare).
    • Effect: Grants all human units +20% pierce armor and +10% hack armor. Myth units gain +15% HP.
    • Crafting Cost: 500 Divine Essence, 1000 Gold, 500 Wood.
  • The Eye of Ra:
    • Components: Eye of Ra Gemstone (Trial of Ra - Mythic), Phoenix Feather (Dropped by Elder Phoenixes in "Valley of the Kings" Mythic difficulty), Sunstone Shard (Obtained from "Desert Oasis" random map generation, rare).
    • Effect: All economic buildings generate resources 15% faster. God Powers cooldown reduced by 20%.
    • Crafting Cost: 600 Divine Essence, 800 Gold, 800 Food.
  • Gungnir:
    • Components: Gungnir Haft (Trial of Odin - Titan), Draugr Bone Shard (Dropped by Ancient Draugr in "Niflheim Depths" Titan difficulty), Yggdrasil Bark (Found in "World Tree's Roots" random map generation, extremely rare).
    • Effect: All military units gain +15% attack damage. Hero units gain +25% attack damage and +1 range.
    • Crafting Cost: 700 Divine Essence, 1200 Gold, 600 Food.

Endless Skirmishes & Mythic Arenas

Beyond the structured trials, the Endless Skirmish mode offers infinite replayability. Here, you can customize map types, resource settings, and AI difficulty to hone your skills against increasingly challenging opponents. Completing 100 Endless Skirmishes on "Titan" difficulty with a single civilization unlocks a unique cosmetic banner for that civilization.

Mythic Arenas are special skirmish maps with unique environmental hazards and pre-set conditions. For example, the "Arena of the Hydra" features a central lake where Hydras continuously spawn, requiring constant naval engagement or powerful ranged units to clear. These arenas are excellent for testing specific unit compositions and micro-management skills. Successfully clearing all Mythic Arenas on "Legendary" difficulty rewards you with the Crown of the Gods, a permanent global bonus of +5% resource gathering rate in all future games.
