Glitches & Bugs
While Age of Mythology: Retold offers a polished and immersive experience, a few persistent glitches and bugs can occasionally impact gameplay. This section details known issues and provides actionable workarounds to help you navigate these quirks and maintain your strategic advantage.
The "God Power" Glitch: Infinite Divine Intervention
This powerful glitch allows players to repeatedly use certain God Powers without consuming their favor or waiting for cooldowns. While potentially game-breaking, it can be a useful tool for testing strategies or overcoming particularly challenging scenarios.
Activating the Glitch:
- Prerequisites: You must have a God Power available and ready to cast. This glitch works best with powers that target a specific area or unit, such as Lightning Storm, Meteor, or Pestilence.
- Initial Cast: Select the desired God Power from your UI.
- Simultaneous Input: Immediately after clicking to cast the God Power, quickly press the
[ENTER]key to open the chat window. - Type and Confirm: While the chat window is open, type any message (e.g., "hi") and press
[ENTER]again to send it. - Observe the Effect: If performed correctly, the God Power will activate, but its icon will not gray out, and your favor will not be consumed. You can then immediately cast it again.
Strategic Applications:
- Overwhelming Foes: Repeatedly cast Lightning Storm on enemy armies or Meteor on their Town Centers for rapid destruction.
- Resource Generation: Use powers like Prosperity or Rain multiple times to quickly gather resources.
- Defensive Measures: Spam Frost or Earthquake to halt enemy advances or cripple their infrastructure.
Important Note: Using this glitch in multiplayer games is generally considered unsportsmanlike and may lead to penalties if reported. It is primarily recommended for single-player campaigns or custom games with friends who are aware and agreeable to its use.
The "Unit Duplication" Bug: Expanding Your Ranks
This bug can occasionally lead to the unintended duplication of units, providing a sudden and significant boost to your army size. While inconsistent, understanding its triggers can sometimes allow for strategic exploitation.
Known Triggers and Workarounds:
- Relic Collection (Specific Relics): Some players have reported unit duplication occurring when a hero unit picks up specific relics, particularly the Golden Fleece or the Serpent Staff, while simultaneously under attack or performing another action.
- Strategy: Have a hero pick up these relics near a barracks or stable. If duplication occurs, the new unit will often spawn near the collection point.
- Building Destruction and Reconstruction: Rarely, when a military building (e.g., Barracks, Stable, Archery Range) is destroyed and then immediately rebuilt on the exact same spot, any units that were in the process of being trained in the original building might reappear from the new one, sometimes in duplicate.
- Strategy: This is highly unreliable. If you notice a building being destroyed, try to rebuild it instantly on its previous footprint.
- Hero Conversion (Myth Units): There have been isolated reports of myth units being duplicated when a hero attempts to convert them, and the conversion is interrupted at a precise moment.
- Strategy: This is extremely difficult to replicate. It seems to involve precise timing of an attack on the hero during the conversion animation.
Disclaimer: The "Unit Duplication" bug is less reliable than the "God Power" glitch and often occurs spontaneously. Attempting to force it can be resource-intensive and may not yield consistent results.
The "Stuck Unit" Phenomenon: Pathfinding Peculiarities
Occasionally, units can become stuck on terrain, inside buildings, or in odd positions, rendering them immobile and useless. This is often a pathfinding issue, but sometimes it can be resolved.
Resolving Stuck Units:
- Micro-Management: Try individually selecting the stuck unit and giving it small, precise movement commands to different nearby locations. Sometimes a slight nudge is all it needs.
- Attack Command: Order the stuck unit to attack a nearby enemy or even a friendly unit (if you're desperate and willing to risk friendly fire). The attack animation can sometimes dislodge them.
- Formation Changes: If multiple units are stuck, try changing their formation (e.g., from line to box). This can sometimes reset their pathfinding.
- Building Destruction (Last Resort): If a unit is stuck inside a friendly building, destroying the building will free the unit. This is a costly solution but effective.
- Relocate to Town Center: For villagers or gatherers, ordering them to gather from a resource near your Town Center, or even to garrison in the Town Center, can sometimes reset their pathfinding.
Prevention: To minimize stuck units, avoid ordering large groups of units through narrow passages or around complex terrain. Always ensure clear paths for your units, especially during large-scale engagements.
