God Power List & Details

God Powers are the divine interventions granted by your chosen Major and Minor Gods in Age of Mythology: Retold. These powerful abilities can turn the tide of battle, bolster your economy, or devastate your enemies. Understanding their nuances, optimal timings, and counter-strategies is crucial for mastering the game.

General God Power Strategies

  • Timing is Everything: Most God Powers have a single use per game. Deploying them too early on a minor skirmish or too late when the battle is already lost can be a costly mistake. Observe the flow of the game and anticipate critical moments.
  • Synergy with Units: Some God Powers amplify the effectiveness of specific units. For example, using a healing power on a group of Myth Units can make them nigh-invincible in a push.
  • Scouting is Key: Before unleashing a destructive God Power, ensure your target area is heavily populated by enemy units or structures. Wasting a Meteor on an empty patch of land is a rookie error.
  • Defense vs. Offense: God Powers come in both defensive and offensive varieties. Prioritize what your current game state demands. Are you under heavy siege? A defensive power might save your Town Center. Are you pushing for victory? An offensive power can clear the path.
  • Counter-Play: Be aware of the God Powers your opponent might have. If they have access to a powerful offensive ability, consider spreading out your units or fortifying key positions.

Major God Powers (Examples)

Each Major God provides a unique starting God Power. These are often foundational to your early game strategy.

Zeus: Bolt

  • Effect: Instantly kills a single enemy unit, regardless of its health or armor.
  • Optimal Use:
    • Early Game Threat Elimination: Use Bolt to instantly remove an early aggressive Myth Unit (e.g., a Cyclops or Minotaur) that could otherwise cripple your economy or military. This is especially effective against units with high health or those that are difficult to counter with early military units.
    • Hero Sniping: In later stages, Bolt can be used to eliminate a powerful enemy Hero unit that is buffing their army or causing significant damage.
    • Siege Weapon Removal: A well-placed Bolt can instantly destroy a Catapult or Ballista that is threatening your fortifications.
  • Strategy: Save Bolt for high-value targets. Don't waste it on a single basic soldier unless it's a desperate measure to save a critical building or unit. Its instant nature makes it excellent for surprise eliminations.

Poseidon: Lure

  • Effect: Creates a Lure stone that attracts animals to it, providing a steady source of food.
  • Optimal Use:
    • Early Game Food Boost: Place the Lure near your Town Center or a forward base to quickly gather a large amount of food without needing to send villagers far afield. This accelerates your economic development and allows for faster Age advancement.
    • Resource Depletion Mitigation: If your starting huntables are scarce or depleted, Lure provides a reliable alternative.
    • Forward Base Support: When establishing a new Town Center or military outpost, a Lure can provide immediate food for training units or supporting villagers.
  • Strategy: Place the Lure strategically to maximize villager efficiency. Avoid placing it too close to enemy lines, as it can be destroyed. Consider placing it near a forest for additional wood income from nearby trees.

Isis: Prosperity

  • Effect: Increases the gather rate of all your villagers for a short duration.
  • Optimal Use:
    • Economic Spike: Activate Prosperity when you have a large number of villagers actively gathering resources (food, wood, gold). This creates a significant economic surge, allowing you to quickly accumulate resources for Age advancements, unit production, or building construction.
    • Age Up Acceleration: Use it just before you plan to advance to the next Age to gather the necessary resources much faster, giving you a timing advantage over your opponent.
    • Resource Catch-Up: If you're falling behind economically, Prosperity can help you quickly close the gap.
  • Strategy: Prosperity is best used when your economy is already established and you have a good number of villagers. It's less effective in the very early game with only a few villagers. Coordinate its use with your build order to maximize its impact.

Minor God Powers (Examples)

Minor God Powers are chosen as you advance through the Ages, offering a wider range of tactical options.

Hermes (Greek, Classical Age): Ceasefire

  • Effect: All combat ceases for a short period, and units cannot be attacked or attack.
  • Optimal Use:
    • Saving a Critical Building: If your Town Center or a key military building is about to fall, Ceasefire can buy you precious time to repair it, bring in reinforcements, or evacuate villagers.
    • Escaping an Ambush: If your army is caught out of position or ambushed, Ceasefire allows you to retreat to safety without taking further losses.
    • Setting Up a Counter-Attack: Use Ceasefire to reposition your units, build defenses, or train a counter-army while your opponent is temporarily halted.
  • Strategy: Ceasefire is a defensive power. Use it to recover from a bad situation or to prepare for a powerful counter-offensive. Be mindful that your opponent also cannot attack during this period, so don't expect to gain an offensive advantage directly from it.

Bast (Egyptian, Classical Age): Eclipse

  • Effect: Turns day into night, increasing the attack of Myth Units and reducing the attack of human units for a duration.
  • Optimal Use:
    • Myth Unit Push: If you have a strong contingent of Myth Units, activate Eclipse just before engaging in a major battle. This significantly boosts their damage output, making them incredibly potent.
    • Countering Human Armies: Use Eclipse to weaken an enemy army composed primarily of human units, giving your own forces (especially Myth Units) a significant advantage.
    • Siege Support: When pushing into an enemy base with Myth Units, Eclipse can help them tear through defenses and enemy units faster.
  • Strategy: Eclipse is an offensive power that synergizes heavily with Myth Unit production. Only choose Bast if you plan on incorporating Myth Units into your army composition. Time its activation to coincide with your main offensive push.

Freyja (Norse, Classical Age): Forest Fire

  • Effect: Sets a patch of forest on fire, damaging and potentially killing units caught in the blaze.
  • Optimal Use:
    • Area Denial: Use Forest Fire to block off chokepoints in heavily forested maps, forcing enemy units to take longer routes or suffer damage.
    • Ambush Counter: If an enemy army is hiding in a forest, a well-placed Forest Fire can flush them out or inflict significant damage.
    • Resource Denial: Burn down an enemy's primary wood source to cripple their economy.
  • Strategy: Forest Fire is a versatile power for controlling the map and denying resources. Be careful not to burn down your own forests or trap your own units. It's particularly effective on maps with dense tree coverage.
