Campaign Mission List

Welcome, aspiring myth-master! This comprehensive guide will walk you through each mission of the Age of Mythology: Retold campaign, providing actionable strategies, key item locations, and crucial unit compositions to ensure your victory. Remember, adaptability is key; while these strategies are proven, the gods themselves often favor those who can improvise!

The Golden Gift

Your journey begins with a seemingly simple task, but don't let your guard down. This mission serves as an excellent introduction to basic resource management and unit control.

  • Initial Steps: Immediately begin gathering resources. Assign 4 villagers to food (berry bushes nearby), 3 to wood (forest to the north), and 2 to gold (gold mine to the east). Train additional villagers from your Town Center as soon as possible.
  • Early Expansion: Scout with your starting scout unit to locate additional resource nodes and potential enemy patrols. You'll often find a small group of enemy raiding parties attempting to harass your resource gatherers. Use your starting military units (usually a few spearmen and archers) to defend.
  • Objective: Your primary objective is to gather enough resources to advance to the Classical Age and construct a specific building, often a Temple or an Armory. Focus on maintaining a steady flow of resources, especially food, to train more villagers and advance quickly.
  • Key Item/Location: Look for a small, hidden cache of gold or wood near the map's edge, often guarded by a single enemy unit. This can provide a crucial early-game boost.
  • Strategy Tip: Prioritize building a few defensive towers near your most vulnerable resource collection points. This will deter early enemy aggression and allow your military to focus on offensive maneuvers or larger threats.

The Serpent's Coil

This mission introduces more complex tactical challenges, often involving naval combat or navigating treacherous terrain. Prepare for a multi-pronged assault.

  • Naval Dominance: If the mission involves water, immediately establish a Fishing Ship economy. Build a Dock and begin training Fishing Ships. Simultaneously, research naval upgrades at the Dock.
  • Island Hopping: Many missions of this type require you to transport units across water to different landmasses. Build Transport Ships and load them with a balanced force of infantry, archers, and siege units.
  • Enemy Strongholds: Expect to encounter fortified enemy positions. use siege units like Catapults or Ballistae to dismantle enemy walls and towers. Focus fire on their Town Centers to cripple their economy.
  • Divine Power Usage: This is an excellent mission to experiment with your chosen god's God Powers. For example, a well-placed "Lightning Storm" can decimate a cluster of enemy units, while "Forest Fire" can clear enemy defenses or create new pathways.
  • Key Item/Location: A neutral settlement or a powerful relic might be located on a central island, offering significant bonuses if captured. Secure it with a small, elite force.
  • Strategy Tip: Maintain a strong defensive line at your main base while launching your naval assaults. The enemy will often attempt counter-attacks on your vulnerable economic centers.

The Titan's Awakening

Prepare for the ultimate challenge! These late-game missions often involve facing off against powerful Myth Units, enemy Titans, or defending against overwhelming odds. Resource management and strategic unit composition are paramount.

  • Titan Gate Defense: If your objective is to prevent the enemy from completing a Titan Gate, focus all your military might on destroying their construction efforts. Siege units are crucial here.
  • Myth Unit Counter-Play: Research the specific weaknesses of the enemy's dominant Myth Units. For example, Hippikons are effective against Egyptian Chariots, while Axemen excel against Greek Heroes.
  • Wonder Rush or Annihilation: Depending on the mission, you might need to either construct and defend a Wonder (requiring immense resource generation and a strong defense) or completely annihilate all enemy forces and buildings.
  • Hero Units: Your Hero units are invaluable in these missions. Use them to counter enemy Myth Units, gather relics, and inspire your troops. Keep them alive at all costs!
  • Key Item/Location: Ancient Relics scattered across the map can provide powerful global bonuses, such as increased resource gathering rates or unit attack power. Prioritize securing these.
  • Strategy Tip: Establish multiple production buildings (Barracks, Archery Ranges, Stables, Siege Workshops) to rapidly replenish your forces during sustained engagements. Don't be afraid to retreat and regroup if your army is taking heavy losses. Remember to continuously train Villagers to maintain your economy, even in the heat of battle.
