The Titans Campaign
Welcome, brave hero, to the ultimate challenge in Age of Mythology: Retold – The Titans Campaign! This guide will walk you through the epic struggle against Kronos and his monstrous brethren, ensuring your victory and the salvation of the world. Prepare for intense battles, strategic resource management, and the cunning use of god powers.
Mission 1: The Golden Gift
Your journey begins with "The Golden Gift," a mission focused on establishing your presence and securing vital resources. This early stage is crucial for building a strong foundation for the battles ahead.
Objective: Secure the Golden Gift
- Initial Setup: You start with a small base and a few units. Immediately begin gathering resources. Send your Villagers to chop wood and mine gold. Assign a few to gather food from nearby berry bushes or hunt animals.
- Scouting: Use your starting Scout Cavalry or Myth Unit (depending on your chosen god) to explore the immediate area. Look for additional resource nodes and potential enemy threats.
- First Expansion: Your primary goal is to find and secure the "Golden Gift." This is typically a large gold mine or a cluster of valuable resources located a short distance from your starting position. It's often guarded by a few enemy units, such as Minotaurs or Cyclopes.
- Building Your Economy: Prioritize building a Temple to start generating favor and a Military Academy or Barracks to train basic military units. A few Archers or Hoplites will be sufficient to clear the initial guardians of the Golden Gift.
- Securing the Gift: Once you locate the Golden Gift, send your small force to eliminate the guarding units. After the area is clear, build a Town Center near the Golden Gift if possible, or at least a few Storehouses to maximize resource gathering efficiency.
Secondary Objectives & Tips
- Explore the Map: There are often hidden treasures or minor settlements on the map that can provide additional resources or even a few free units. Thorough exploration is key.
- God Powers: utilize your starting god powers. A well-placed Bolt can quickly eliminate a troublesome enemy unit, or a Healing power can keep your early forces alive.
- Defense: While focused on expansion, be mindful of potential early enemy raids. Build a few Watch Towers around your main base and the Golden Gift to provide early warning.
- Advance Ages: As soon as your economy allows, advance to the next age. This unlocks more powerful units, technologies, and god powers that will be vital for later stages of the mission. Aim for the Heroic Age as quickly as possible to gain access to more advanced military units and powerful Myth Units.
Strategic Considerations for the Campaign
The Titans Campaign is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep these overarching strategies in mind:
- Resource Management: Always maintain a balanced economy. Don't overproduce military units if your resource income can't sustain them, and vice-versa.
- God Power Usage: Save your most powerful god powers for critical moments, such as pushing through heavily fortified enemy positions or defending against a massive Titan assault.
- Myth Units: Leverage the strengths of your chosen civilization's Myth Units. They often have unique abilities that can turn the tide of battle. For example, the Colossus can be a powerful siege unit, while the Mummy can convert enemy units.
- Hero Units: Your Hero units are invaluable. Keep them alive and use their special abilities. They are often strong against Myth Units.
- Map Control: Controlling key areas of the map, especially those with valuable resources or strategic chokepoints, is crucial for success.
Common Challenges & Solutions
| Challenge | Solution |
|---|---|
| Early Enemy Raids | Build Watch Towers, train a small defensive force (e.g., 5-7 units), and use your starting Hero unit to intercept. |
| Running Low on Gold | Scout for additional gold mines, research mining upgrades at the Economic Guild, and trade with allies if available. |
| Titan Attacks | Focus fire with all available units, especially ranged units and Heroes. Use powerful God Powers like Meteor or Tornado to disrupt their advance. Build defensive structures like Fortresses. |
| Lack of Favor | Build more Temples (up to the limit), ensure your Villagers are building structures, and research favor-generating technologies. |
