The right items and equipment can turn the tide of battle and significantly empower your heroes. This section details the equipment system in Age of Wonders 4, from inventory management to custom crafting via the Item Forge.
Hero Inventory and Mounts
Each hero has a dedicated inventory consisting of several slots: Main Hand (Weapon), Off-Hand (Shield or Secondary), Head, Torso, Legs, and up to three Accessory slots. Additionally, heroes possess a Mount slot. Mounts are categorized into basic tiers (like Horses) and specialized types (like Wyverns or Spider Mounts) which can grant unique movement abilities like Flying or Webbing, or provide stat bonuses to the hero's led army.
Item Rarities
Equipment is categorized by power and scarcity. As you progress, you will encounter items in the following tiers:
- Common: Basic gear often found in early clearings.
- Uncommon: Reliable mid-game equipment.
- Rare: Powerful items with significant stat boosts.
- Epic: Artifacts that can define a hero's build.
- Legendary: The rarest items in the game, often boasting game-changing passive or active abilities.
The Item Forge and Binding Essence
The Item Forge is the primary mechanic for acquiring specific high-tier gear in the mid-to-late game. This system allows you to craft custom equipment tailored to your hero’s specific role. To use the forge, you must gather Binding Essence, which is primarily obtained by disenchanting unwanted items in your inventory. By spending Binding Essence and gold, you can select specific infusions—such as life-steal, elemental damage, or resistance—to create gear that complements your faction's strategy.
Whether you are looting powerful artifacts from Ancient Wonders or crafting perfection in the Forge, understanding your gear is crucial for maximizing your combat effectiveness and ensuring your Godir reigns supreme.
