Neglecting any of these can lead to a protracted struggle or even defeat at the hands of a rival ruler.

Consolidating Power & Economy

Before initiating your final victory push, ensure your economy is robust and your infrastructure is optimized. This means:

Resource Maximization: Prioritize building structures that generate significant amounts of Gold, Mana, and Knowledge. Look for opportunities to exploit rare resource nodes within your territory, such as Adamantine Veins for production or Mana Springs for magical income.
City Specialization: Assign specific roles to your cities. Dedicate some to unit production (e.g., a city with a War College and Forge), others to research (e.g., a city with a Grand Library and Arcane Institute), and some to pure resource generation.

Knowledge & Mana Focus: Maximize your Knowledge and Mana income from the early game. Research all relevant Tomes that boost these resources.
Defensive Fortifications: Each magical structure you build will attract the ire of other rulers. Fortify these locations heavily with Walls, Guard Towers, and powerful defensive armies.
Global Spells: Prepare powerful global spells to deter or counter enemy attacks on your magical structures. World's End or Armageddon can turn the tide of a desperate defense.
