Light is your primary weapon against the Taken. It strips away their protective darkness, making them vulnerable to firearms. Mastering the use of light sources is more important than any conventional weapon.
- Flashlight: Your most basic and essential tool. Hold the aim button to focus the beam, burning away darkness faster but draining batteries quickly. Always keep spare batteries on hand.
- Heavy-Duty Flashlight: A more powerful version of the standard flashlight, found later in the game. It burns away darkness much faster but still consumes batteries at a high rate when focused.
- Flares: Handheld light sources that create a temporary safe zone, repelling Taken. Excellent for crowd control or creating an escape route when overwhelmed. Throw them to clear an area or drop them at your feet for protection.
- Flare Gun: A powerful single-shot weapon that fires a bright flare, instantly incinerating any Taken caught in its blast radius. Extremely effective against groups or heavily armored Taken. Ammunition is very scarce, so use it wisely.
- Flashbang Grenades: Throwable devices that emit a blinding flash of light, instantly destroying any Taken within its radius. Similar to the Flare Gun in effectiveness but with a wider area of effect. Also very rare.
Always prioritize using light to weaken enemies before expending precious ammunition. Combining a focused flashlight beam with a quick shot is the most efficient combat strategy.
