Mission 12: Synthetic Jungle
Welcome to Mission 12, "Synthetic Jungle." This mission will test your stealth, resourcefulness, and ability to navigate complex environments while avoiding both the Alien and increasingly aggressive Working Joes. Preparation is key, so ensure your inventory is well-stocked with crafting materials, especially for EMP Mines and noisemakers. This guide will provide a comprehensive, step-by-step walkthrough to help you achieve a perfect run.
Objective: Reach the Seegson Communications Tower
Your primary goal is to reach the Seegson Communications Tower to attempt to contact the Torrens. This will involve traversing through several heavily guarded areas, requiring careful planning and execution.
Navigating the Lower Levels
- Initial Area: You'll start in a maintenance corridor. Immediately crouch and use your Motion Tracker. There's often a lone Working Joe patrolling the initial hallway. Wait for it to pass, or use a noisemaker to distract it.
- Resource Gathering (Initial Corridor):
- Medical Supplies: Check the small medical station on the right side of the first large room for a Medkit (1) and some Scrap (x2).
- Crafting Components: In the adjacent locker room (accessible via a slightly ajar door), you can find Blasting Caps (x3) and Sensor Components (x2). Be wary, as a Working Joe sometimes patrols this locker room.
- Flamethrower Fuel: A small canister of Flamethrower Fuel (x1) can be found on a shelf near the locker room exit.
- Stealth Passage: Proceed through the ventilation shaft located near the medical station. This will bypass a group of three Working Joes patrolling the main path, saving valuable resources and avoiding unnecessary confrontation. The vent entrance is subtly marked by a flickering light.
The Central Processing Hub
Upon exiting the ventilation shaft, you'll find yourself in the Central Processing Hub, a large, multi-tiered area with numerous Working Joes. This area is a significant choke point and requires strategic movement.
- Working Joe Patrols: Expect at least five Working Joes in this area. Two will be on the lower level, two on the mid-level walkways, and one often patrols the upper access points. Their patrol routes are somewhat predictable but can overlap.
- Strategy for the Hub:
- EMP Mines: This is an ideal location to deploy EMP Mines. Target groups of two or more Joes if possible, especially on the lower level. A well-placed EMP can disable them for a crucial 15-20 seconds.
- Distraction: Use noisemakers or throw a flare to draw Joes away from your intended path, particularly when trying to access terminals or specific rooms.
- Terminal Access (Lower Level): On the lower level, near the center, there's a terminal that can be hacked to temporarily disable some of the Joes' optical sensors, making them easier to sneak past. The code for this terminal is 4510. Activating this makes Joes less likely to spot you from a distance.
- Cover Usage: use the abundant crates and machinery for cover. Move from cover to cover, always checking your Motion Tracker.
- Key Item: Security Access Tuner Upgrade
- Location: On the mid-level walkway, inside a small, unlocked office. This office is usually guarded by one patrolling Working Joe. Wait for it to move away before entering. This upgrade will allow you to bypass higher-level security doors, which are crucial for progression.
- Acquisition: The upgrade is on a desk next to a non-functional computer terminal. Interacting with it automatically applies the upgrade.
- Resource Gathering (Central Processing Hub):
- Upper Level: In a small storage room on the upper level (accessible via a staircase near the Security Access Tuner Upgrade office), you can find Gel (x2), Scrap (x3), and a Smoke Bomb Blueprint (if not already acquired).
- Mid-Level: Near the central console on the mid-level, there's a medical cabinet containing a Medkit (1) and Binding Agent (x2).
- Lower Level: Behind some crates near the terminal with code 4510, you can find Explosive (x1) and Sensor Components (x3).
Objective: Activate the Communications Array
Once you've navigated the Central Processing Hub and acquired the Security Access Tuner Upgrade, your next goal is to activate the Communications Array. The path to the array is located on the upper level of the Hub, behind a high-security door.
The Communications Array Control Room
- Approach: The path to the control room is often guarded by a single, heavily armored Working Joe (the "Industrial" model). This unit is more resilient to stun batons and requires multiple hits or a more powerful weapon. Consider using a Pipe Bomb or a well-placed Molotov to deal with it quickly and efficiently. Alternatively, an EMP Mine followed by a few shotgun blasts to the head can also be effective.
- Control Panel: Inside the control room, interact with the main console. You'll need to complete a short hacking mini-game. The sequence is usually a simple pattern matching puzzle where you align three oscillating waveforms. There's no time limit, so take your time.
- Alien Encounter Trigger: Activating the array will trigger an Alien appearance. It will drop from a vent directly above the control room immediately after the activation sequence completes.
- Evasion Strategy: Immediately after activating the array, duck into the small utility closet to your left (from the console's perspective). This closet offers excellent concealment. Wait for the Alien to pass, then use the floor vent located inside the closet to escape the room. Do NOT engage the Alien here; your objective is to escape and conserve resources. The Alien will patrol the control room for a short period before moving into the main hub.
- Resource Gathering (Control Room): Before activating the console, check the side desk for Flamethrower Fuel (x1) and Scrap (x2). A locker near the vent contains Blasting Caps (x2).
Objective: Escape to the Transit Station
With the array activated and the Alien now actively hunting, you need to make your way to the nearest transit station to proceed to the next sector. Speed and stealth are paramount.
Escape Route and Transit Access
- Ventilation System: The floor vent from the control room leads to a series of interconnected vents. Follow these, listening carefully for the Alien's movements above you. The vents are generally safe, but prolonged noise can attract attention.
- Re-entering the Central Processing Hub: The vents will eventually lead you back into the Central Processing Hub, but on a different, usually lower, level than where you entered previously. You'll need to carefully navigate past any remaining Working Joes and, more importantly, the Alien, which will now be patrolling the entire hub.
- Alien Avoidance in the Hub:
- Listen and Track: Continuously monitor your Motion Tracker and listen for the Alien's distinctive sounds (growls, thumps, hisses).
- Use Cover: Stick to cover, moving slowly and deliberately. Avoid running unless absolutely necessary, as it generates significant noise.
- Distractions: If the Alien is blocking your path, a well-placed noisemaker or flare can draw it away temporarily. Be ready to move as soon as it's distracted.
- Flamethrower (Last Resort): Only use the Flamethrower if the Alien has spotted you and is charging. A short burst is usually enough to scare it off, but it consumes valuable fuel.
- Transit Station Access: The transit station entrance is marked by a large, illuminated "Transit" sign. It's located on the ground floor of the Central Processing Hub, typically on the opposite side from where you initially entered. Use your newly acquired Security Access Tuner Upgrade to open the high-security door. This will require a brief hacking mini-game, so ensure the area is clear before attempting it.
- Resource Gathering (Transit Approach): In a small security booth adjacent to the transit station door, you can find Shotgun Ammo (x6), Scrap (x2), and a Medkit (1).
Awaiting Transit
Once inside the transit station, activate the console to call the shuttle. This will trigger a short waiting period (approximately 60-90 seconds) during which you are vulnerable.
- Final Encounter: Be prepared for a final, brief encounter with a Working Joe or two while you wait for the shuttle to arrive. These Joes often emerge from side doors or vents within the transit station itself.
- Defensive Posture: Position yourself strategically, ideally near cover, facing the most likely entry points for the Joes. A Shotgun or Stun Baton is effective here.
- Boarding the Shuttle: Once the shuttle arrives, a door will open. Quickly move inside and interact with the console to complete Mission 12. Do not linger, as the Alien may eventually make its way into the transit station if you take too long.
Congratulations! You have successfully navigated the Synthetic Jungle and activated the communications array, bringing you one step closer to escape. Prepare for the next challenge.
