This section details the critical steps required to progress past a common early-game bottleneck, often referred to by players as "The Bear and the Bathtub" puzzle. Many players find themselves stuck here due to the game's design, which can inadvertently lead to backtracking or confusion. Follow these instructions carefully to navigate this area and open the path forward.

Initial Steps: The Bear and the Steam Wheel

Your first objective is to manipulate a steam wheel located behind a large, imposing bear statue. This sequence is crucial for initiating the puzzle's solution.

1. Locate the Bear: You will find a prominent bear statue blocking a doorway. This is your starting point.
2. Move the Bear: Interact with the bear statue to push it aside, clearing the doorway behind it.
3. Enter the Room: Proceed through the newly opened doorway into the small room beyond.
4. Activate the First Steam Wheel: Inside this room, you will find a steam wheel. Interact with it to turn it. This action will trigger a subtle change in the environment, though its immediate effect may not be obvious.

Important Note: Some players, due to the game's atmospheric tension, might be tempted to move the bear back to block the doorway after entering the room. Do NOT do this. Leaving the bear in its new position is essential for the next steps.

The Bathtub Room and the Second Steam Wheel

With the first steam wheel activated, your attention now shifts to the bathtub room, where a hidden mechanism awaits manipulation.

1. Proceed to the Bathtub Room: Exit the room where you found the first steam wheel and locate the adjacent "Bathtub Room."
2. Find the Concealed Lever: Within the Bathtub Room, carefully examine the walls. You are looking for a painting that conceals a lever. Interact with the painting to move it aside.
3. Flip the Lever: Once the painting is removed, expose and interact with the lever behind it. Flipping this lever is the key to activating the bathtub's movement.
4. Observe the Bathtub: After flipping the lever, the bathtub in the room will move, revealing another hidden area.
5. Activate the Second Steam Wheel: Enter the newly accessible area behind the moved bathtub. Here, you will find the second steam wheel. Interact with it to turn it.

Confirmation and Progression

Upon successfully activating both steam wheels, you will notice significant changes in the environment, particularly concerning gates in the outdoor areas visible from this location. These gates will now be open, indicating that the path forward has been cleared. You can now proceed through the newly opened sections of the mansion.
