Puzzles and Solutions
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs relies heavily on environmental puzzles to progress the narrative. Many of these involve manipulating machinery, finding specific items, or interacting with the environment in a particular sequence. This section will guide you through the most common and potentially challenging puzzles you'll encounter.
The Bear and the Bathtub (Early Game Mechanism)
One of the first significant obstacles players often face involves a sequence of steam wheels and movable objects. This puzzle is typically encountered when the game hints at "The Bear And The Bathtub" in your journal.
Objective: Clear the Path to Proceed
Your goal is to open a passage by activating two steam wheels, which in turn move gates blocking your way.
- Step 1: Access the First Steam Wheel
- Locate a large, stuffed bear. This bear is often found blocking a doorway.
- Action: Interact with the bear to move it out of the way, revealing a hidden room.
- Enter this newly accessible room.
- Inside, you will find the First Steam Wheel.
- Action: Turn the First Steam Wheel. You should hear a mechanical sound, indicating it's been activated.
- Step 2: Manipulate the Bathtub Mechanism
- Exit the room where you found the first steam wheel and proceed towards the "bathtub room."
- In the bathtub room, look for a painting on the wall.
- Action: Interact with the painting to move it aside. This will reveal a hidden lever.
- Action: Flip the revealed lever. This action will cause the bathtub itself to move, exposing another hidden area behind it.
- Step 3: Activate the Second Steam Wheel
- Enter the area that was revealed by moving the bathtub.
- Here, you will find the Second Steam Wheel.
- Action: Turn the Second Steam Wheel.
Troubleshooting Common Issues:
Players sometimes inadvertently block their own progress in this section. If you find yourself stuck:
- Blocked Doorway: If you moved the bear back in front of the doorway after activating the first steam wheel, you might need to move it again to access the bathtub room. The game's physics can sometimes lead to objects being placed in inconvenient positions.
- Unresponsive Levers/Wheels: Ensure you are fully interacting with the objects. Sometimes a slight adjustment in your camera angle or proximity is needed for the interaction prompt to appear correctly.
- Visual Confirmation: After turning both steam wheels, look towards the "outside portion" of the area. You should observe gates moving, confirming that the puzzle has been successfully completed and the path forward is now open.
