Key Items & Quest Items
Navigating Brennenburg Castle's dark corridors requires more than just courage; it demands a keen eye for crucial items. This section details all essential key and quest items, their locations, and how to use them to progress through Daniel's terrifying journey.
Act I: The Castle Entrance & Archives
- Laudanum: While not a quest item, Laudanum is vital for sanity management. You'll find a bottle in the Rainy Hall, on a small table near the entrance. Always keep an eye out for these; they're your best defense against the encroaching madness.
- Tinderboxes: Scattered throughout the castle, these are your primary source of light. In the Rainy Hall, check the drawers of the large cabinet to your left as you enter. More can be found in the Old Archives, often tucked away in desks or on shelves. Conserve them!
- Oil: Used to refill your lantern. A small bottle can be found in the Old Archives, usually on a shelf or inside a cabinet. Prioritize refilling your lantern over using tinderboxes for prolonged light.
- Archive Key: This crucial key is located in the Old Archives. Search the desk in the main room; it's often partially hidden under some papers or a book. This key unlocks the door leading to the main Archives area.
Act II: The Laboratory & Wine Cellar
- Laboratory Key: After progressing through the Archives, you'll need to access the Laboratory 1. The key for this area is typically found within the main Archives, often on a shelf or in a cabinet near the locked laboratory door itself.
- Wine Cellar Key: To reach the Wine Cellar/Laboratory 2, you'll need this key. It's usually located within Laboratory 1. Thoroughly search all tables, shelves, and cabinets in the laboratory; it can be small and easily missed.
- Acid: A critical quest item found in Laboratory 2. Look for a beaker or bottle containing a corrosive liquid on one of the workbenches. This acid is necessary to dissolve a specific obstruction later in the game.
Act III: The Refinery & Beyond
- Refinery Lever: To activate machinery in the Refinery, you'll need this lever. It's often found detached from its mechanism, usually on a nearby crate or shelf within the Refinery area itself. You'll need to attach it to the appropriate console to proceed.
- Cellar Archives Key: This key grants access to the Cellar Archives. It is typically located within the Refinery, often in a small office or storage room connected to the main refinery floor. Check all desks and drawers.
- Archive Tunnels Map: While not a physical key, finding this map in the Cellar Archives is vital. It provides crucial guidance for navigating the labyrinthine Archive Tunnels, preventing you from getting lost and wasting precious light.
- Back Hall Key: After traversing the Archive Tunnels, you'll need this key to enter the Back Hall. It's usually found at the very end of the Archive Tunnels, often near the exit door or in a small alcove.
- Study Key: The final key for this section, allowing access to the Study. This key is located within the Back Hall. Search the various rooms and corridors; it might be on a table, in a cabinet, or even on a hook.
