The Transept

Welcome to the Transept, a crucial area that bridges the Choir and the Nave. This section will guide you through its dark corridors, helping you find essential items and navigate the dangers within.

Initial Exploration & Key Items

  • Upon entering the Transept from the Choir, you'll find yourself in a long, dimly lit hallway.
  • Immediately to your right, look for a small alcove. Inside, you'll discover a Laudanum, a vital sanity restorer.
  • Continue down the hallway. On a small table or ledge along the left wall, you should spot some Oil for your lantern. Always keep your lantern fueled!

The Main Chamber & Puzzle Elements

The hallway opens into a larger, central chamber of the Transept. This area is critical for progressing to the Nave.

  • The Broken Bridge: Your primary objective here is to repair the broken bridge that spans the chasm. This requires finding specific gears.
  • First Gear Location:
    • Head to the far side of the chamber, opposite where you entered.
    • Look for a small, elevated platform or walkway. Climb up onto it.
    • On this platform, you'll find the First Gear. Pick it up immediately.
  • Second Gear Location:
    • Descend from the platform.
    • Explore the lower level of the chamber. You'll notice a collapsed section or rubble near the chasm.
    • Carefully navigate this area. The Second Gear is often found nestled among the debris or near a broken pillar. It can be a bit tricky to spot in the darkness, so use your lantern.

Repairing the Bridge

Once you have both gears, it's time to fix the bridge.

  1. Locate the broken machinery next to the chasm. It will have two empty slots for the gears.
  2. Place the First Gear: Interact with one of the empty slots and place the First Gear.
  3. Place the Second Gear: Interact with the remaining empty slot and place the Second Gear.
  4. Once both gears are in place, a lever should become accessible nearby. Pull the lever to extend the bridge.

Navigating the Bridge and Beyond

  • Cross the newly repaired bridge. Be mindful of your sanity as you cross; the chasm below can be unsettling.
  • On the other side of the bridge, you'll find another short corridor.
  • Look for a small storage box or cabinet along the wall. Inside, you might find more Oil or a Tinderbox.
  • Continue through this corridor. It will lead you directly into the Nave.

Sanity Management & Shadow

The Transept is a dark area, and the Shadow is often active. Keep these tips in mind:

  • Stay in the Light: Light sources are scarce. Use your lantern judiciously, but don't be afraid to light candles or torches if you find them.
  • Avoid Staring: If you hear the Shadow or feel its presence, avoid looking directly at it. Turn away or find cover.
  • Use Laudanum: If your sanity drops too low, use the Laudanum you found to restore it.
