5.6. Advanced Sabotage Combinations
Sabotages are a core mechanic for Impostors in Among Us, used to create chaos, split up Crewmates, and set up kill opportunities. While individual sabotages are effective, combining them strategically can create devastating scenarios that overwhelm the Crewmates and lead to swift victory. Mastering these combinations is a hallmark of advanced Impostor play.
The effectiveness of a sabotage lies in its ability to disrupt the Crewmates' primary objective: completing tasks and identifying Impostors. By understanding the different sabotages and how they interact, Impostors can create complex traps and force Crewmates into difficult choices. The goal is to maximize confusion and minimize the Crewmates' ability to react.
Key Sabotages and Their Effects:
- Lights: Sificantly reduces Crewmate vision, making it easier for Impostors to kill unseen.
- Communications: Disables the taskbar, security cameras, admin map, and vitals. This hinders information gathering for Crewmates.
- O2 Depletion: A critical sabotage that, if not fixed within a time limit, results in an Impostor win. Requires two players to fix at separate locations.
- Reactor Meltdown: Similar to O2, this is a critical sabotage requiring two players at separate locations to fix, leading to an Impostor win if not resolved.
- Doors (Map Specific): Can be used to trap players, block escape routes, or isolate targets.
Advanced Sabotage Combinations:
- Lights + Kill: The most basic but effective combination. Turn off the lights, then move in to kill an isolated Crewmate. The reduced vision makes it hard for anyone to see you escape.
- Lights + Door Lock: After turning off the lights, lock doors to trap a target or prevent witnesses from entering an area. This is particularly deadly in tight corridors.
- Communications + Critical Sabotage (O2/Reactor): Disabling communications prevents Crewmates from seeing the taskbar or using surveillance tools, making it harder to coordinate a fix for O2 or Reactor. This can lead to a quick win if Crewmates are slow to react.
- O2/Reactor + Door Lock: Initiate a critical sabotage, then lock doors to prevent Crewmates from reaching the fix locations. This can force a win if players are trapped or delayed.
- Sabotage to Split + Kill: Use a sabotage like O2 or Reactor to force Crewmates to split up and go to different locations. Then, use the chaos to pick off an isolated player.
- Sabotage to Draw Away + Kill: Sabotage a critical system in one part of the map to draw most Crewmates there, then quickly kill someone in a different, less populated area.
- Vent Travel + Sabotage: Kill someone, then immediately vent to a different part of the map and trigger a sabotage. This makes it appear as though you were nowhere near the kill location.
- Door Lock + Vent Escape: Trap a Crewmate in a room with you, kill them, then vent out before they can be found or before the doors are opened.
Strategic Considerations:
- Kill Cooldown: Always be mindful of your kill cooldown. Plan your sabotages and kills so that you can execute them efficiently.
- Crewmate Numbers: The effectiveness of certain sabotages (like O2/Reactor) increases as the number of Crewmates decreases.
- Map Layout: Different maps offer different opportunities for sabotage combinations. For example, The Skeld's interconnected vents are perfect for quick escapes after sabotages.
- Player Behavior: Observe how Crewmates react to sabotages. Do they always go to fix them immediately? Do they group up?
By mastering these advanced sabotage combinations, Impostors can sificantly increase their chances of winning. These tactics transform simple distractions into powerful tools of deception and elimination, making the game a thrilling challenge for all involved.
