10.1. Coordinated Impostor Sabotage Chains

In Among Us, coordinated Impostors can turn the tide of a game by chaining together sabotages and kills in a strategic sequence. This advanced tactic aims to create maximum chaos, divide Crewmates, and secure kills under the cover of confusion. Mastering these chains requires excellent communication and timing between Impostors.

A sabotage chain is a sequence of actions where one Impostor initiates a sabotage, drawing Crewmates to a specific location or disrupting their tasks, while the other Impostor(s) capitalize on the distraction to secure a kill. The key is to make these actions flow seamlessly, leaving Crewmates with little time to react or deduce the Impostors' movements.

Example of a Sabotage Chain:

  1. Initiate Lights Sabotage: One Impostor calls for lights to be turned off. This immediately reduces visibility across the map, making it harder for Crewmates to see each other and for Crewmates to spot Impostors.
  2. Crewmates React: Most Crewmates will head towards Electrical to fix the lights. This action naturally groups them and draws them away from other parts of the map.
  3. Impostor 1 (Lights): While Crewmates are heading to Electrical, Impostor 1 can position themselves near Electrical or a strategic hallway.
  4. Impostor 2 (Kill/Sabotage): As Crewmates converge on Electrical, Impostor 2 can either:
    • Secure a Kill: If a lone Crewmate is lagging behind or is isolated in a hallway leading to Electrical, Impostor 2 can quickly kill them and vent away.
    • Initiate a Second Sabotage: Alternatively, Impostor 2 can immediately trigger a critical sabotage like O2 or Reactor. This forces Crewmates to split up and address the new threat, creating more kill opportunities.
  5. The Aftermath: If a kill occurred, the body might be found by Crewmates heading to fix the lights, leading to a confused discussion where Impostors can deflect blame. If a critical sabotage was initiated, Crewmates will be forced to split up, making them vulnerable again.

Other Effective Sabotage Chains:

  • Comms Sabotage followed by a Kill: Disabling communications prevents Crewmates from seeing their task list and using security cameras. This can be used to isolate a Crewmate and kill them, as they won't be able to report their task progress or get visual confirmation from cameras.
  • O2/Reactor Sabotage followed by a Kill: Triggering a critical sabotage forces Crewmates to split up and go to different locations (O2 in upper map, Reactor in lower map). This creates opportunities for Impostors to pick off individuals who are heading to fix the sabotage or are caught alone.
  • Vent Camping and Sabotage: One Impostor can hide in a vent near a high-traffic area. When a Crewmate passes, they can kill and immediately vent away. The other Impostor can then trigger a sabotage to draw attention away from the vent location.

Key Elements for Success:

  • Clear Communication: Impostors must be able to communicate quickly and effectively (if playing with voice chat) or use pre-arranged sals.
  • Map Awareness: Knowing where Crewmates are likely to be and where they will be drawn by a sabotage is crucial.
  • Timing: Executing the sabotage and kill in quick succession is vital.
  • Deception: After the chain, Impostors must act innocent and deflect any suspicion.

By mastering these coordinated efforts, Impostors can sificantly increase their kill count and tilt the game in their favor.
