Understanding Win Conditions for Both Sides
Among Us is a game of opposing objectives, and understanding the win conditions for both the Crewmates and the Impostors is fundamental to mastering the game. Each side has distinct paths to victory, and players must strategize accordingly to achieve their goals while thwarting the enemy's.
Crewmate Win Conditions: Crewmates have two primary ways to win the game:
- Completing All Tasks: This is the most common and direct path to victory. The Crewmates win if they collectively finish all their assed tasks before the Impostors can eliminate enough of them. The task bar at the top of the screen visually represents the progress towards this goal. Each player is assed a set of tasks, ranging from short, simple ones like "Swipe Card" to longer, multi-step tasks like "Fix Wiring" or "Download Data." Efficient task management and prioritization are key to achieving this win condition.
- Ejecting All Impostors: The second way for Crewmates to win is by successfully identifying and voting out all the Impostors. This is achieved through careful observation, deduction, and effective communication during emergency meetings. If the Crewmates can correctly identify and eject every Impostor, they win the game, regardless of how many tasks are left. This often involves gathering evidence, sharing information, and making informed decisions during discussions. A wrong ejection can be detrimental, as it removes a potential Crewmate and brings the Impostors closer to victory.
Impostor Win Conditions: Impostors also have two ways to achieve victory, both centered around eliminating the Crewmates:
- Eliminating Enough Crewmates: The Impostors win if they can kill enough Crewmates so that the number of Impostors remaining is equal to the number of Crewmates remaining. For example, in a 10-player game with 2 Impostors, the Impostors win if they manage to kill 8 Crewmates, leaving 2 Crewmates and 2 Impostors. This condition is often met by strategically using kills, sabotages to create opportunities, and exploiting Crewmate mistakes.
- Causing a Critical Sabotage to Succeed: Impostors can win instantly if a critical sabotage, such as the Reactor Meltdown or O2 Depletion, is not fixed in time. These sabotages require two Crewmates to fix them at separate locations. If the Crewmates fail to complete the fix within the allotted time, the Impostors win immediately. This win condition is often used to force Crewmates into specific areas, create chaos, or as a last-ditch effort to win the game when task completion is progressing too quickly.
Understanding the Meta: Players must constantly be aware of which win condition is most achievable at any given moment. If the task bar is nearly full, Impostors might focus on critical sabotages or aggressive kills. If many Crewmates are grouped together, Impostors might try to sow discord and get someone wrongly ejected. Conversely, Crewmates who see the task bar progressing slowly might focus on identifying Impostors to speed up the game. The dynamic interplay between these win conditions creates the tension and strategic depth that makes Among Us so compelling.
| Side | Win Condition 1 | Win Condition 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Crewmates | Complete all tasks. | Eject all Impostors. |
| Impostors | Eliminate enough Crewmates (Impostor count = Crewmate count). | Critical sabotage (Reactor/O2) succeeds. |
