Getting Started: Basic Controls and Movement in Among Us
Among Us is renowned for its simple yet effective gameplay, and its controls are no exception. Understanding how to move your character and interact with the environment is the first step to becoming a successful Crewmate or a cunning Impostor.
Whether you're playing on a PC or a mobile device, the core controls are desed to be intuitive. The primary goal is to navigate the map, complete tasks, and avoid detection (if you're an Impostor) or to identify threats and complete objectives (if you're a Crewmate). Mastering these basic controls will allow you to focus on the strategic elements of the game.
Movement Controls:
- PC (Keyboard):
By default, you can move your character using the WASD keys or the Arrow keys. Simply press the key corresponding to the direction you want to move (Up, Down, Left, Right). Your character will move in that direction until you release the key.
- Mobile (Touchscreen):
On mobile devices, movement is controlled via a virtual joystick. A circular area will appear on the left side of your screen. Drag your finger within this area in the direction you want your character to move. The further you drag your finger from the center, the faster your character will move (up to their maximum speed).
Interaction Controls:
Interacting with the environment is crucial for completing tasks, sabotaging, or calling emergency meetings. The interaction button typically appears on the right side of your screen when you are near an object or person you can interact with.
- PC (Keyboard):
The primary interaction key is usually the 'E' key. When you are close enough to a task, a vent, a sabotage panel, or another player (for reporting a body), the 'Use' button will appear. Pressing 'E' will activate that interaction.
- Mobile (Touchscreen):
On mobile, a large, circular 'Use' button will appear on the right side of your screen when you are in proximity to an interactable object or person. Simply tap this button to perform the action. If you are an Impostor, you will also see a 'Kill' button and a 'Sabotage' button when applicable.
Other Important Controls:
- Reporting a Body: When you find a dead body, a 'Report' button will appear. Press this to call a meeting and discuss who might be the Impostor.
- Calling an Emergency Meeting: On most maps, there's an emergency button (often in the Cafeteria or Meeting Room). Pressing this initiates a meeting, but these are limited per player per game.
- Opening the Map: A map icon is usually present in the top corner of the screen. Clicking this (PC) or tapping it (Mobile) will open the map, showing your current location, task locations, and other players' general positions.
- Chat: During meetings, a chat window appears. You can type messages here to communicate with other players.
