Blending In with Crewmates
The best Impostors are those who are rarely suspected. Blending in means acting like a genuine crewmate, completing tasks (or at least appearing to), and participating in discussions without raising red flags. the subtle art of deception and how to become invisible in plain sight.
To succeed as an Impostor, you must first and foremost appear to be a crewmate. This involves mimicking their behavior, understanding their priorities, and avoiding actions that scream "Impostor." The more you can seamlessly integrate into the crew's routine, the longer you'll survive and the more opportunities you'll have to strike.
Key Behaviors of a Blending Impostor:
- Task Simulation: This is paramount. Pretend to do tasks. Stand at task locations for a reasonable amount of time. Know which tasks are common, short, and long. For example, if someone asks what you were doing, say "I was doing the wires in Electrical."
- Following the Pack: When crewmates move in groups, try to join them. This makes you look like you're part of the team. However, be careful not to be *too* close to your Impostor partner.
- Participating in Discussions: Don't be silent. Ask questions, offer opinions, and engage with the crew. However, avoid being overly aggressive or defensive.
- "Helping" with Sabotages: Pretend to be on your way to fix sabotages. This shows you're a team player.
- Observing and Reporting: Occasionally, "report" a body or call an emergency meeting. This can make you seem like a concerned crewmate.
- Knowing Task Locations: Be familiar with where tasks are located on the map. This makes your feed task completion more believable.
Specific Strategies for Blending:
- The "Task Route": Plan a route that mimics a typical crewmate's task progression. For example, start in Cafeteria, go to Weapons, then Navigation.
- The "Visual Task Gambit": If you know a crewmate is watching you do a visual task (like MedBay scan), you can use this to your advantage. However, be aware that if they *don't* see the animation, you're busted.
- The "Fake Task": Stand at a task location and pretend to interact with it. Know how long the task *should* take and stay there for a similar duration.
- The "Information Gatherer": Ask questions about who saw whom where. This makes you seem like you're trying to solve the mystery.
- The "Vouch System": If you see a crewmate doing a task, you can later "vouch" for them, making you seem like a helpful ally.
What NOT to Do:
- Vent in front of anyone.
- Kill in plain sight.
- Follow your Impostor partner too closely.
- Be overly aggressive or defensive in meetings.
- Stand still in hallways for extended periods.
- Accuse people without any evidence.
By mastering the art of blending in, you become a ghost in the machine, striking when least expected and sowing confusion among the crew.
