Your Role as an Impostor

As an Impostor, you are the hidden threat, the saboteur, the killer among the crew. Your primary objective is to eliminate enough Crewmates so that the number of Impostors equals the number of remaining Crewmates, or to successfully sabotage critical systems that lead to a win. Deception, stealth, and strategic timing are your greatest allies. Blend in, fake tasks, and strike when the moment is right.

Being an Impostor is a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, where your survival depends on your ability to mislead and eliminate. You have unique abilities that Crewmates do not, including the power to kill and to use vents. Mastering these abilities, combined with a keen understanding of Crewmate behavior, is key to victory. This section delves into the core strategies for a successful Impostor run.

Key Impostor Abilities:

  • Kill: This is your primary offensive ability. It has a cooldown period, so use it wisely. Look for isolated Crewmates or moments when you can kill and escape unseen.
  • Sabotage: Impostors can disrupt the ship's systems. This includes:
    • Lights: Sificantly reduces Crewmate vision, creating perfect opportunities for kills.
    • Comms: Disables security cameras, admin table, and task progress, sowing confusion.
    • O2 Depletion: A critical sabotage that, if not fixed within a time limit, results in an Impostor win.
    • Reactor Meltdown: Another critical sabotage that, if not fixed, leads to an Impostor win.
    • Doors: Can be used to trap Crewmates, isolate targets, or block off escape routes.
  • Vents: Impostors can use vents to quickly travel between different locations on the map, escape crime scenes, or set up ambushes. Be careful not to be seen entering or exiting a vent!

Impostor Strategies:

  1. Blend In: Pretend to do tasks. Stand at task locations for a reasonable amount of time. Know which tasks are visual (like MedBay Scan or Shields) and avoid faking those if others are present.
  2. Isolate and Eliminate: Look for opportunities to kill Crewmates when they are alone. Use sabotages like Lights or Doors to create these opportunities.
  3. Use Vents Strategically: Vents are your escape route and your shortcut. Learn the vent connections on each map. Use them to disappear after a kill or to quickly move to a different part of the map to establish an alibi.
  4. Frame Others: If you can, try to make it look like another Crewmate is the Impostor. This can be done by killing near them, or by reporting a body and subtly shifting blame.
  5. Lie Convincingly: During discussions, be prepared to lie. Have an alibi ready. If accused, deny it firmly but don't overdo it. Sometimes, a calm denial is more believable than an angry outburst.
  6. Coordinate with Fellow Impostors: If there are multiple Impostors, try to coordinate your kills and sabotages. Avoid killing in front of your Impostor partner, as this can lead to both of you being caught.
  7. Know the Map: Familiarize yourself with the map layout, vent locations, and common Crewmate paths. This knowledge is crucial for planning kills and escapes.

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

  • Killing in a high-traffic area.
  • Being seen near a body before it's reported.
  • Using vents when someone might be watching.
  • Faking visual tasks incorrectly.
  • Being too quiet or too vocal during discussions.
