9.1. Finding Lobbies & Friends
Connecting with friends and finding suitable public lobbies are essential aspects of the Among Us experience, allowing for both casual fun and competitive play. Whether you're looking for a private game with your usual crew or want to jump into a public match with new players, understanding how to navigate the lobby system is key.
Among Us offers several ways to find and join games. The primary methods involve using the in-game lobby browser or inviting friends directly. When you launch Among Us, you'll be presented with options to host a game, find a game, or enter a code. For finding lobbies, the 'Find Game' option is your gateway.
Finding Public Lobbies:
- Select 'Find Game': From the main menu, choose 'Find Game'.
- Filter Options: You'll be presented with a list of available public lobbies. You can filter these lobbies based on several criteria:
- Map: Choose which map you want to play on (The Skeld, Mira HQ, Polus, The Airship, etc.).
- Number of Impostors: Select how many Impostors you prefer (1, 2, or 3).
- Max Players: Filter by the maximum number of players in the lobby.
- Language: Select your preferred language for communication.
- Join a Lobby: Browse the filtered list and click on a lobby that interests you. If the lobby is full or has started, you'll be prompted to find another.
Finding Friends and Private Lobbies:
Playing with friends is often the most enjoyable way to experience Among Us. There are two main methods for this:
- Using Game Codes:
- Host a Private Game: If you are hosting, select 'Host' from the main menu, choose your desired settings, and then select 'Create Private Lobby'. A unique 6-letter code will be generated.
- Share the Code: Share this code with your friends.
- Join a Private Game: Your friends will select 'Find Game', then 'Enter Code', and input the code you provided to join your lobby.
- In-Game Friend System (if available/linked):
- Among Us has introduced an in-game friend system. You can add friends by their username and unique ID.
- Once added, you can see if your friends are online and in a game.
- You can invite friends directly to your lobby or join their game if they are hosting a public or private game that allows invites.
Tips for Finding Good Lobbies:
- Check Player Count: Look for lobbies that are close to full but haven't started yet for the best experience.
- Observe Lobby Settings: Pay attention to the Impostor count and other settings to ensure they match your preferences.
- Be Patient: Sometimes it takes a few tries to find a lobby with good players and minimal cheating.
By mastering these methods, you can ensure you're always ready to jump into a game with your friends or find a lively public lobby to test your skills.
