Dealing with Visual Tasks

Visual tasks are a Crewmate's best friend, offering undeniable proof of innocence. As an Impostor, you must either avoid them entirely or learn to convincingly fake them. Understanding which tasks are visual and how they appear to other players is crucial for both deception and detection.

Visual tasks are desed to be seen by other players, providing concrete evidence of a Crewmate's identity. For example, the 'Empty Garbage' task in Storage shows a visible animation of trash being ejected. Similarly, 'Prime Shields' in Shields Bay has a distinct visual effect where the shields light up. As an Impostor, if you're caught near a visual task location without completing it, or if you attempt to fake one and are observed, your deception will be exposed.

Impostor Strategies for Visual Tasks:

  • Avoid Areas with Visual Tasks: The simplest strategy is to stay away from locations where visual tasks are performed. This prevents you from being caught in a compromising situation.
  • Fake Tasks Convincingly: If you must be near a visual task, learn the timing and animations of common tasks. Stand at the task location for a plausible amount of time. However, be aware that experienced players will often ask you to perform the visual task to confirm.
  • Use Sabotages to Distract: Triggering a sabotage, especially a critical one like O2 or Reactor, can pull Crewmates away from observing you. This gives you a window to move or even attempt a kill without immediate scrutiny.
  • Blame Others: If you are accused of faking a visual task, try to shift suspicion. Accuse someone else of being suspicious or claim you saw them near the visual task location.
  • Know the Task Locations: Familiarize yourself with all visual tasks and their locations:
    • MedBay: Submit Scan
    • Shields Bay: Prime Shields
    • Weapons: Clear Asteroids
    • Storage: Empty Garbage (visible animation)
  • Be Mindful of Witnessing: If you see a Crewmate performing a visual task, remember it. This information can be used to vouch for them or to identify Impostors who claim to have seen them elsewhere.

The Risk of Faking:

Faking visual tasks is incredibly risky. If another player sees you standing at a visual task station but doesn't see the animation, they will know you are an Impostor. This is why it's often better for Impostors to focus on other methods of deception and sabotage rather than attempting to fake visual tasks.
