Countering Security Cameras
For Impostors, the security cameras represent a sificant threat, offering Crewmates a powerful surveillance tool. Understanding how to operate under the watchful eyes of the cameras, or how to disable their effectiveness, is crucial for successful deception and securing kills.
The security cameras, located in the Security room, provide Crewmates with live feeds of various high-traffic areas. An Impostor caught on camera during a kill or suspicious movement can be quickly identified. Therefore, Impostors must develop strategies to mitigate this risk, either by avoiding cameras altogether or by actively countering their presence.
Impostor Strategies to Counter Cameras
- Know the Blind Spots: Every camera has a limited field of view. Learn the edges of these zones and the areas that are not covered. Venting into or out of these blind spots can be a lifesaver.
- Vent Usage: Vents are your best friend when dealing with cameras. If you kill near a camera's view, immediately vent to a different location to escape suspicion. Ensure the vent exit is not also under camera surveillance.
- Strategic Sabotages:
- Lights Sabotage: This is the most direct counter. When lights are out, camera visibility is severely reduced, making it much harder for Crewmates to see anything clearly. This is the prime time to make kills near camera zones.
- Other Sabotages: While not directly disabling cameras, sabotages like O2 or Reactor can draw Crewmates away from the Security room, giving you a window to move freely or make a kill without immediate surveillance.
- Timing is Everything: Observe the red light on the camera feed. If it's blinking, someone is actively watching. Avoid making moves when the light is on. Wait for the watcher to leave or for a sabotage to distract them.
- Fake Tasks in View: If you are caught in a camera's view and cannot escape, pretend to be doing a task. Stand at a task station for a reasonable amount of time to appear innocent.
- Body Hiding: If you must kill near a camera, try to drag the body to a less visible area or a location where it might not be found immediately.
- Framing Others: If you see a Crewmate near a camera and you've just killed, you can try to report the body and subtly imply the Crewmate was involved, especially if they were seen moving suspiciously on camera.
Understanding Crewmate Camera Use
As an Impostor, it's also vital to understand how Crewmates use cameras:
- They Watch for Movement: Crewmates in Security will be looking for players moving erratically, running away from bodies, or entering/exiting vents.
- They Establish Innocence: Crewmates might use cameras to show they were performing tasks.
- They Coordinate: If a Crewmate sees something, they will likely report it in the next meeting.
By anticipating Crewmate actions and utilizing the environment and sabotage mechanics, Impostors can effectively neutralize the threat of security cameras and continue their deadly work undetected.
