Daily Tasks & Routines
Establishing a consistent daily routine in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is key to maximizing your island's development, accumulating wealth, and fostering strong relationships with your villagers. While the game encourages a relaxed pace, engaging in a few simple tasks each day can sificantly accelerate your progress, allowing you to pay off loans faster, expand your inventory, and unlock new features.
This section will guide you through the most beneficial daily activities, from resource gathering and money-making strategies to villager interactions and island maintenance. By incorporating these routines into your gameplay, you'll ensure your island thrives and you never miss out on valuable opportunities. Remember, consistency is more important than intensity; even a short play session focused on these tasks can yield great rewards over time.
Morning Chores: Setting the Day's Pace
Start your day by checking for new arrivals and important announcements. The Resident Services building is your first stop for any major news or special visitors. After that, it's time to gather resources and check your mail.
- Check Mailbox: You might have letters from villagers, Nook Inc., or even gifts from friends. Always check your mailbox first thing!
- Shake All Trees: Every day, two pieces of furniture and five wasp nests will fall from your non-fruit trees. Shake each tree (except fruit trees you plan to harvest later) to collect these valuable items. Be ready with your net for wasps!
- Hit All Rocks: Each day, one rock on your island will be a "money rock" yielding up to 16,100 Bells, and another will be a "material rock" providing up to 8 resources (stone, clay, iron nuggets). Dig holes behind you to prevent recoil and hit the rock 8 times quickly.
- Collect Fossils: Up to four new fossil spots appear daily. Dig them up and take them to Blathers at the Museum for assessment. Donate new ones and sell duplicates for Bells.
- Collect Message in a Bottle: A DIY recipe will wash up on your beach daily. Don't miss out on these free recipes!
- Check Nook Shopping: Access the Nook Stop terminal in Resident Services to check the daily rotating special items and order up to five items per day.
Midday Management: Growing Your Island
Once your initial resource gathering is complete, focus on maintaining your island and interacting with its inhabitants.
- Talk to All Villagers: Speak to each of your villagers at least once a day. This builds friendship, and they might give you gifts, DIY recipes, or even ask for favors. Look for thought bubbles above their heads!
- Water Flowers: If you're breeding hybrid flowers, remember to water them daily. Even if you're not, watering helps them spread.
- Harvest Fruit & Vegetables: Collect ripe fruit from your fruit trees and vegetables from your garden. These are excellent sources of Bells when sold.
- Fish & Catch Bugs: Dedicate some time to fishing and bug catching. Different creatures appear at different times of day and in different seasons, so explore your island thoroughly. Donate new finds to the Museum and sell duplicates.
- Check for Weeds: Pulling weeds helps maintain your island's aesthetic and contributes to your island rating.
Evening Wind-Down: Preparing for Tomorrow
Before logging off, a few final checks can set you up for success the next day.
- Check Nook's Cranny Hot Item: The Nooklings offer double Bells for a specific "hot item" crafted that day. If you have the DIY recipe and materials, it's a great way to earn extra cash.
- Check Turnip Prices: If you're participating in the Stalk Market, check the Nooklings' buying prices for your turnips. They change twice a day (before and after noon).
- Visit Able Sisters: Check out the daily rotating clothing selection.
- Craft & Organize: Use any new DIY recipes you found and organize your inventory and storage.
