With increased trade activity due to the Crusade, pirate attacks will become more frequent. To defend your trade routes, you need to build a Shipyard (requires Citizens) and construct a small fleet of military ships, such as Oriental Warships or Occidental Small Warships. Position these ships strategically along your most vulnerable trade routes or near your main islands. You can set them to patrol a specific area or assign them to escort your trade ships. Remember that military ships require upkeep, so ensure your economy can support them. Engaging in naval combat involves selecting your ships and targeting enemy vessels. Utilize your ships' special abilities, if any, and focus fire on weaker targets first. Successfully defending your trade routes ensures a continuous flow of goods and prevents economic disruptions.
