Trade is the lifeblood of your empire in Anno 1404, allowing you to acquire resources you cannot produce yourself and sell surpluses for profit. Establish trade routes between your islands and with other factions, such as Lord Richard Northburgh and the Grand Vizier Al Zahir. To set up a trade route, open the trade route menu (usually accessible via the minimap or a dedicated button), select your ships, and define their path and cargo. You can specify which goods to load and unload at each port, and at what quantity. Diplomacy plays a crucial role in securing favorable trade agreements and avoiding conflict. Maintain good relations with other AI players by fulfilling their requests, offering gifts, and engaging in trade. Poor relations can lead to piracy, blockades, and even war. The diplomatic screen (accessed via the portrait of the AI player) provides an overview of your current standing and options for interaction.
