Campaign Missions and Objectives

The Anno 1404 campaign offers a compelling narrative alongside its city-building challenges. Each chapter presents unique objectives, often requiring a blend of economic prowess, diplomatic finesse, and sometimes, military intervention. This guide will provide detailed, actionable steps to navigate the campaign's intricacies.

Chapter 1: A New World

Objective: Establish a Thriving Settlement

  • Initial Setup: Upon starting, you'll be granted a small starting fund and a flagship. Immediately sail to the designated island, typically marked with a green arrow.
  • Warehouse Construction: Your first priority is to build a Warehouse on the coastline. This acts as your central hub for resources and trade.
  • Wood Production: To expand, you'll need wood. Construct at least two Lumberjack's Huts and a Sawmill. Place them near forests for optimal efficiency.
  • Fisherman's Huts: Food is crucial for your population. Build two to three Fisherman's Huts along the coast to provide fish.
  • Residential Zones: Lay down residential plots for your Peasants. Ensure they are within the influence radius of your Market Building (which is often pre-built or a very early objective). Provide them with access to fish and community buildings like the Chapel (once unlocked) to encourage growth.
  • Meet Population Target: The mission typically requires reaching a certain number of Peasants. Keep an eye on your population counter and ensure their needs (food, faith, community) are met to encourage them to upgrade to Citizens.

Chapter 2: The Sultan's Request

Objective: Aid the Sultan with Oriental Goods

  • Locate Oriental Islands: You will be introduced to the Oriental faction. Use your flagship to explore the map and locate an island suitable for Oriental settlement. These islands are characterized by arid landscapes and specific resource icons (e.g., Dates, Spices).
  • Establish Oriental Outpost: Build a Warehouse on the chosen Oriental island. You will receive an initial supply of Oriental building materials.
  • Date Production: The Sultan often requests Dates. Construct Date Plantations on fertile ground. Ensure they are within range of your Oriental Warehouse.
  • Spice Production: Similarly, Spice Farms will be necessary. These also require fertile ground on Oriental islands.
  • Trade Route Setup: Once you have a surplus of Dates and Spices, establish a trade route between your Occidental (European) island and your Oriental outpost.
    1. Click on your flagship or another trading ship.
    2. Select the "Create Trade Route" option.
    3. Add your Oriental Warehouse as a loading point for Dates and Spices.
    4. Add your Occidental Warehouse as an unloading point for these goods.
    5. Adjust quantities to ensure a steady supply for the Sultan's requests and your own population's needs (once unlocked).
  • Deliver Goods: The Sultan will have a specific quantity of goods he requires. Ensure your trade route is efficient enough to deliver these within the given timeframe. You can manually load goods onto your flagship and deliver them directly to the Sultan's harbor for faster completion if necessary.

Chapter 3: The Venetian Merchant

Objective: Acquire Specific Items from Giacomo Garibaldi

  • Locate Garibaldi's Trading Post: Giacomo Garibaldi, a Venetian merchant, will appear on the map. His trading post will be clearly marked. Sail your flagship to his location.
  • Understand Garibaldi's Demands: Garibaldi rarely gives things away for free. He will typically ask for specific goods in exchange for the items you need. These can range from common goods like Tools or Wood to more advanced items such as Rope or Leather Jerkins.
  • Fulfill Trade Requirements:
    • Produce Required Goods: If you don't have the requested goods in your warehouse, you'll need to set up production chains for them. For example, if he asks for Tools, you'll need an Iron Mine, a Charcoal Burner's Hut, and a Toolmaker's Workshop.
    • Load Goods onto Ship: Once you have the required items, load them onto your flagship.
    • Initiate Trade: Sail back to Garibaldi's trading post and click on his ship or warehouse. Select the trade option and exchange your goods for the mission-critical items.
  • Deliver Items: After acquiring the items from Garibaldi, the mission will instruct you where to deliver them, often back to your main settlement or another NPC.
