Scenario Guides

Welcome to the dedicated Scenario Guides section for Anno 1404! Here, you'll find comprehensive, step-by-step walkthroughs designed to help you conquer even the most challenging scenarios. Each guide focuses on specific objectives, optimal build orders, and strategic considerations to ensure your success.

The Sultan's Fleet

This scenario challenges you to build a formidable fleet for the Sultan. Resource management and efficient trade routes are paramount.

Initial Setup & Expansion

  • Starting Island: Prioritize an island with a good supply of Wood and Stone. Immediately establish a small settlement with a few Fisherman's Huts and a Lumberjack's Hut.
  • Population Growth: Focus on attracting enough Peasants to upgrade to Citizens. This unlocks important buildings like the Chapel and Tavern, which boost happiness and tax income.
  • Early Trade: Establish a trade route with Lord Northburgh as soon as possible. Sell surplus Fish and Wood for Gold. Purchase Tools and Building Materials if your initial island lacks Stone.
  • Second Island: Scout for a suitable second island with Hemp and ideally Iron Ore deposits. Hemp is crucial for producing Ropes, a key component for ships.

Resource Production for the Fleet

The Sultan's Fleet requires a significant amount of resources, particularly for Warships.

  • Hemp & Ropes:
    • On your Hemp island, establish several Hemp Plantations.
    • Build Ropewalks to process Hemp into Ropes. Ensure you have enough Workers to staff these.
  • Iron & Weapons:
    • Locate an island with Iron Ore and Coal deposits. If unavailable on your main islands, you'll need to trade for these or colonize a third island.
    • Build Iron Mines and Coal Mines.
    • Construct an Iron Smelter to produce Iron.
    • Establish a Weaponsmith to produce Weapons.
  • Wood & Shipyards:
    • Maintain a steady supply of Wood from Lumberjack's Huts.
    • Build at least two Shipyards to accelerate ship construction. Place them strategically to minimize travel time for resources.

Building the Fleet

The Sultan will provide specific requests for ship types. Pay close attention to these and prioritize their construction.

  1. Small Trading Ships: These are quick to build and essential for establishing new trade routes and transporting goods. Build a few early on to secure resources.
  2. Oriental Trading Ships: Once you have access to Oriental goods, these ships are more efficient for long-distance trade.
  3. Warships: These are the most resource-intensive. Ensure you have a robust supply chain for Wood, Ropes, and Weapons before committing to mass production.
  4. Fleet Composition: Aim for a balanced fleet. While Warships are vital, don't neglect the need for Trading Ships to maintain your economy and supply your military.

Dealing with Pirates

Pirates can be a nuisance, especially when transporting valuable goods. Be prepared to defend your trade routes.

  • Escort Convoys: Assign a small Warship to escort your valuable Trading Ships.
  • Watchtowers: Build Watchtowers on strategic islands to provide early warning of pirate activity.
  • Bounty Hunting: Occasionally, the Sultan or Lord Northburgh may offer bounties for sinking pirate ships. This can be a good way to earn extra Gold and reduce the pirate threat.

Victory Conditions

The scenario concludes once you have delivered the requested number and type of ships to the Sultan's harbor. Ensure your production lines are stable and your economy can support the ongoing costs of your fleet.
