Early Game Essentials (Workers & Artisans)
Focus on these buildings as soon as their respective population tiers become available. Their immediate impact on happiness and productivity is vital for early expansion.
- Marketplace: Your very first public building, available with Farmers. Provides basic needs satisfaction and a radius for other services. Place it centrally within your residential blocks. Aim for one Marketplace per ~100-150 Farmer residences.
- Fire Station: Unlocked with Workers. Essential for preventing devastating fires that can cripple your production chains and residential areas. Place them strategically to cover high-density housing and industrial zones. A good rule of thumb is one Fire Station per major industrial cluster or every 3-4 residential blocks.

- Hospital: Unlocked with Engineers. Reduces illness and increases population growth, which is vital for maintaining a healthy and expanding workforce. Place Hospitals to cover large residential areas, prioritizing densely populated Engineer and Investor districts.
- University: Also unlocked with Engineers. Essential for research and development, unlocking advanced technologies and items. While not directly a public service for residents, its impact on your empire's progress is immense. Place it in a dedicated academic district, often near your Engineer and Investor populations.

- Variety Theatre: A major happiness booster for Engineers and Investors. Provides a substantial happiness bonus, crucial for maintaining these demanding populations. Ensure good coverage in your high-tier residential zones.
- Museum & Zoo: These cultural buildings, unlocked through expeditions and item acquisition, provide massive happiness bonuses and attractiveness to your city. They are modular, allowing you to expand them with artifacts and animals.
- Museum: Collect artifacts from expeditions and trade to fill its wings. Each artifact provides a happiness and attractiveness bonus.
- Zoo: Similarly, collect animals from expeditions. Each animal enclosure adds to happiness and attractiveness.
Advanced Strategies & Placement Tips
- Radius Management: Pay close attention to the influence radius of each public building. Overlapping radii for happiness-boosting services (Pubs, Churches, Theatres) is generally beneficial. For essential services like Fire and Police Stations, ensure complete coverage of all at-risk buildings.
- Road Access: All public buildings require road access to function. Ensure your road network is efficient and connects all residences and service buildings.
