Effective combat and strategy in Apex Legends involve understanding the game's core mechanics and utilizing available resources. Once on the ground, squads must scavenge for weapons, armor, and other equipment found in buildings or randomly distributed crates. A nonverbal communication "ping system" allows players to communicate directions, weapon locations, enemy positions, and suggested strategies to their squad.
The Apex Games operate under a strict rulebook, with a new edition published annually. This rulebook covers participant eligibility and permissible equipment, including classifications for "pet" and "non-combatant technology." Rulings from the Commission based on this text can be appealed. The Commission also reserves exclusive rights to use Legends' likeness for promotional materials, marketing, merchandise, and more.
Horizon, a gravity-manipulating Legend introduced in Season 7, is known for her high mobility and crowd-control capabilities, offering strategic advantages in combat scenarios. In Season 19, Storm Point received a partial rework to enhance combat experiences, and promotion trials were added to ranking matches, allowing players to focus on completing trials without LP decrease or increase.
