Battle Royale Overview
The Battle Royale mode, often referred to as 'Play Apex', is the foundational game mode of Apex Legends. It pits up to 60 players, divided into squads of three (Trios) or two (Duos), against each other on a large map. The ultimate objective is to be the last squad standing.
Matches begin with all players inside a dropship. You can then choose to skydive onto the map, led by their squad's Jumpmaster. Upon landing, players must scavenge for weapons, armor, healing items, and ammunition. The playable area, known as 'The Ring', gradually shrinks over time, forcing players closer together and increasing the intensity of encounters.
- Player Count: 60 players (20 squads of 3 in Trios, 30 squads of 2 in Duos).
- Objective: Be the last squad alive.
- Starting Gear: Level 1 Shield Core, Knockdown Shield, 4 Shield Cells, 4 Syringes.
- Looting: Find weapons, armor, and consumables scattered across the map.
- The Ring: A constantly shrinking zone that forces players into combat.
After a player is eliminated, they drop a Death Box containing their inventory. Squadmates have a limited time to retrieve a fallen teammate's Banner Card from their Death Box or craft it at a Replicator to respawn them at a Respawn Beacon. Care Packages containing high-tier loot and Replicators also spawn periodically within the Ring.
Matches are designed to be fast-paced, with a maximum duration of 21 minutes. This ensures constant action and strategic decision-making regarding rotations, engagements, and resource management. The variety of maps available, each with unique layouts and points of interest, adds replayability and strategic depth.
