Battle Armor
Battle Armor was an LTM that simplified the armor system, making it easier for players to get into the fight with a baseline level of protection. In this mode, all players spawned with a white Body Shield, and any Body Shields found on the ground or in loot bins were also white. This meant that the focus shifted from finding higher-tier armor to managing and upgrading your shield through combat. It was an LTM that emphasized consistent engagement and shield management.
The core mechanic of Battle Armor was the universal availability of white Body Shields. Every player began the match with one, and only white shields could be found as loot. This removed the RNG element of finding a high-tier shield early on, ensuring that all players had a starting point for defense. The progression in this mode came from 'upgrading' your white shield by dealing damage. When you damaged enemies, your white shield would slowly evolve into a blue, then purple, and eventually a red (Fortified) shield, provided you survived long enough and dealt enough damage.
Key Features and Strategies for Battle Armor:
- Damage is Your Armor: Your primary goal is to deal damage to enemies to upgrade your shield. Don't shy away from engagements.
- Shield Management: While shields upgrade through damage, they still deplete. Prioritize finding shield cells and batteries to maintain your current shield level.
- Aggressive Playstyle: The mode encourages aggressive play to upgrade your armor. Pushing fights is often rewarded with better shields.
- Looting Priorities: Focus on acquiring weapons, ammo, and shield consumables. Higher-tier armor is not a concern, but maintaining your current shield is.
- Legend Synergy: Legends with abilities that allow for sustained combat or quick retreats can be beneficial for managing shield upgrades and survivability.
Looting in Battle Armor was streamlined. The absence of higher-tier body shields meant you could focus your looting efforts on weapons, ammo, grenades, and crucially, shield consumables. Finding shield cells and shield batteries was paramount to keeping your evolving shield at its maximum. The faster you could replenish your shield after a fight, the quicker you could move on to the next engagement to further upgrade it.
The objective remained to be the last squad standing. However, Battle Armor provided a more consistent and action-oriented experience. It removed the frustration of being under-armored early on and instead rewarded players for their combat prowess. The visual feedback of your shield changing color as you dealt damage was also a satisfying element, making it a fun and engaging LTM for those who enjoyed constant firefights.
