The Apex Games were planned as early as 2723, following the Mercenary Syndicate Treaty and the end of the Outlands Civil War. Preparations for the games took several years, starting between 2728 and 2731, and the games have been running for over 120 seasons. The new incarnation of the Thunderdome was named after Blisk's former mercenary outfit, the Apex Predators.
Notable events in the game's history include:
- The 124th Season saw the inclusion of Octavio Silva (Octane) and Natalie Paquette (Wattson).
- The games were suspended after a mysterious figure detonated an EMP blast on Kings Canyon's Repulsor Tower, leading to wildlife invasion.
- The Syndicate upgraded Kings Canyon with new structures like The Cage and a sponsored area for Octane.
- Due to continued attacks, the games temporarily moved to World's Edge on the planet Talos.

Apex Packs are loot boxes containing random cosmetic items. Different types of Apex Packs include:
- Apex Packs: By default Rare, with Epic and Legendary versions available in the Store or during Events.
- Thematic Packs: Contain at least one item for a specific Legend, weapon, or cosmetic type.
- Collection Event Packs: Contain at least one item from the Collection Event they originate from.
- Themed Event Packs: Contain at least one item from the Themed Event they originate from.
