The rich lore of Apex Legends provides context for the ongoing battles and character motivations. Collectibles, such as Apex Packs, offer cosmetic items that allow players to personalize their experience. Understanding the game's history and the significance of events like the suspension of games in Kings Canyon adds depth to the gameplay.
- Apex Games History: The games were suspended for a long period after a mysterious figure detonated an EMP blast on the main arena of Kings Canyon's Repulsor Tower. This led to the invasion of wildlife into the arena.
- Apex Packs: These are loot boxes that provide random cosmetic items. Types include:
- Apex Packs: Rare by default, with Epic and Legendary versions available in the Store or during Events.
- Thematic Packs: Contain at least one item for a specific Legend, weapon, or cosmetic type.
- Collection Event Packs: Contain at least one item from their associated Collection Event.
- Themed Event Packs: Contain at least one item from their associated Themed Event.
- Match Structure: Battle Royale features 60 players. In Trios, this is twenty squads of three, and in Duos, thirty squads of two. The goal is to be the last squad standing.
- Dropship and Jumpmaster: Matches begin with players in a dropship. Players skydive onto the map, led by their squad's automatically-chosen Jumpmaster.
