Gao the Tiger is a formidable opponent, a brute who relies on powerful, sweeping attacks. This fight is less about stealth and more about precise timing and counter-attacks. He has several distinct phases, each requiring a slightly different approach.
Phase 1: Direct Confrontation
Gao will charge at you with heavy, unblockable attacks. Your primary strategy here is to dodge his attacks (using the jump/climb button) and then counter-attack. After he finishes a combo, there will be a brief opening where you can land 2-3 hits. Do not get greedy. He will also perform a ground pound attack; jump to avoid the shockwave. Keep moving and dodging. Use your Smoke Bombs if you have them to stun him, allowing for a longer attack window, but save at least one for later phases if possible.
Phase 2: Environmental Hazards
As his health depletes, Gao will retreat to an area with environmental hazards, such as falling debris or explosive barrels. He will try to lure you into these traps. Use your Rope Dart to interact with the environment, for example, by pulling down a chandelier onto him, or by triggering an explosive barrel when he is near it. This is a great way to deal significant damage while keeping your distance. Continue to dodge his charges and look for opportunities to use the environment against him. He might also summon a few weaker guards; dispatch them quickly with silent takedowns if possible, or use a smoke bomb to clear them out.
Phase 3: Final Stand
In his final phase, Gao becomes more aggressive, and his attacks are faster. He might also gain a new attack, such as a rapid series of punches. The core strategy remains the same: dodge, then counter-attack. If you have any remaining Smoke Bombs, this is the time to use them to create openings. Focus on precise dodges and landing quick hits. Do not attempt to block his attacks; they are mostly unblockable. Patience and timing are crucial to whittle down his remaining health. Upon defeat, you will be rewarded with a significant score bonus and progress to the next sequence.
