Recruit Abilities & Management
As you progress through the tumultuous American Revolution, you won't be fighting alone. Connor can recruit a loyal band of Assassin initiates to aid him in his struggle against the Templars. These recruits, once trained, become invaluable assets, capable of turning the tide of battle, creating diversions, and even executing assassinations from a distance. Mastering their abilities and efficient management is crucial for any aspiring Assassin.
Recruiting New Assassins
Recruits are typically gained by completing specific "Liberation Contracts" found throughout Boston and New York. These contracts involve assisting citizens in distress or eliminating oppressive British forces. Keep an eye out for the Assassin icon on your map, indicating a potential recruit opportunity.
- Boston Liberation Contracts:
- North Boston: Look for opportunities to disrupt British patrols or free captured civilians. One early recruit can be found after clearing a small encampment near the docks.
- Central Boston: Several contracts involve eliminating specific British officers or destroying supply caches.
- South Boston: Often involves protecting merchants or stopping public executions.
- New York Liberation Contracts:
- North New York: Similar to Boston, expect to deal with patrols and freeing prisoners.
- West New York: Focuses on sabotage and eliminating key British personnel.
- East New York: Often involves larger skirmishes and protecting rebel sympathizers.
Upon successfully completing a Liberation Contract, the grateful individual will offer to join your cause. Accept their offer to add them to your roster.
Managing Your Recruits
Access your Assassin Recruits menu from the main pause screen. Here, you can view your current roster, their ranks, and their available abilities. You can have a maximum of six active recruits at any given time.
- Ranks and Experience: Recruits gain experience by successfully completing missions you assign them (see "Assassin Contracts" below) or by assisting you in combat. As they gain experience, they will level up, increasing their effectiveness and unlocking new abilities. The highest rank a recruit can achieve is Assassin.
- Assigning Abilities: Each recruit has a unique set of abilities that unlock as they rank up. These abilities are crucial for tactical gameplay. assign them to your quick-select wheel for easy access during missions.
Recruit Abilities & Strategic Use

- Ambush (Rank 1):
- Description: Recruits hide in designated areas and, upon your command, emerge to attack nearby enemies. Ideal for creating diversions or thinning out patrols.
- Strategy: Use this ability to draw attention away from your objective, or to initiate combat on your terms. Position your recruits in bushes or haystacks near enemy patrols.
- Covert Assassination (Rank 2):
- Description: Recruits will silently eliminate a designated target from a distance, often blending into the environment before striking.
- Strategy: Perfect for taking out isolated sentries, snipers on rooftops, or even key targets without raising an alarm. Mark your target, then activate the ability.
- Bodyguard (Rank 3):
- Description: Recruits will engage in direct combat with enemies that are attacking you or a designated ally.
- Strategy: Call upon your bodyguards when you're outnumbered or facing particularly tough opponents like Jägers or Grenadiers. They can absorb damage and create openings for you to strike.
- Arrow Storm (Rank 4):
- Description: Your recruits unleash a volley of arrows, incapacitating or killing multiple enemies in a targeted area.
- Strategy: This is a powerful crowd-control ability. Use it against large groups of soldiers, especially when you need to clear a path quickly or prevent reinforcements from reaching you.
- Rope Dart Assassination (Rank 5):
- Description: Recruits use rope darts to pull targets from their positions, leaving them vulnerable for an easy kill or creating a distraction.
- Strategy: Excellent for dealing with enemies on ledges, watchtowers, or even pulling a target into a hidden area for a silent kill.
- Disguise (Rank 6 - Assassin Rank):
- Description: Your recruits will create a distraction by disguising themselves as British soldiers, drawing attention and allowing you to pass unnoticed.
- Strategy: Invaluable for navigating heavily guarded areas or escaping pursuit. Activate this ability to create a temporary safe passage.
Assassin Contracts
Beyond direct combat assistance, you can send your recruits on "Assassin Contracts" from the Assassin Recruits menu. These missions are accessible from any Pigeon Coop located in cities or the Frontier.
- Mission Types: Contracts vary, from assassinations and sabotage to escort missions and intelligence gathering.
- Rewards: Successful contracts yield experience for your recruits, money, and sometimes even unique crafting materials for the Homestead.
- Risk vs. Reward: Each contract has a difficulty rating and a success chance percentage, influenced by your recruits' ranks and the number of recruits assigned. Higher difficulty missions offer greater rewards but also carry a higher risk of failure or even a recruit being injured.
- Strategic Assignment: Always try to assign recruits to missions where their combined success chance is 100% to guarantee success and avoid injuries. Injured recruits cannot be used for a period of time.
By effectively managing your Assassin recruits, leveling up their abilities, and strategically deploying them, you'll find Connor's journey through the American Revolution significantly more manageable and enjoyable.
