Collectibles Checklist
Welcome, Assassin, to the definitive guide for tracking down every hidden treasure and secret within the vast world of Assassin's Creed III. Achieving 100% synchronization often hinges on collecting these elusive items. This comprehensive checklist provides detailed locations and strategies to ensure you don't miss a single one. Remember to utilize your map frequently and mark locations as you discover them.
Feather Locations (Boston, New York, Frontier)
Feathers are perhaps the most iconic collectible in Assassin's Creed III, scattered across the three main regions. Collecting all 50 feathers is crucial for unlocking the "Kidd's Journal" missions and ultimately, the Captain Kidd's Outfit. They are often found in high, precarious locations, requiring skillful free-running.
- Boston (20 Feathers): Boston's feathers are primarily found on rooftops, church steeples, and the masts of ships docked in the harbor. Pay close attention to the North End and Central Boston districts. Many require a precise jump or climb sequence.
- New York (20 Feathers): Similar to Boston, New York's feathers are perched atop the tallest buildings and structures. Explore the various districts thoroughly, from the bustling docks to the more residential areas. Some feathers might be on the edges of the city, requiring a short trek into the surrounding wilderness.
- Frontier (10 Feathers): The Frontier's feathers are often found on cliffs, large trees, or near significant landmarks like waterfalls and caves. These can be trickier to spot due to the dense foliage. Use Eagle Vision frequently to highlight them.
Strategy: Approach feather collection systematically. Clear one district or region before moving to the next. Use your map to pinpoint general areas, then activate Eagle Vision to spot the feather's distinctive glow. For feathers on ships, you'll often need to climb the rigging. For those on buildings, look for obvious climbing paths or nearby structures to leap from.
Pequot Trinkets (Frontier)
The Pequot Trinkets are a set of 24 unique items hidden throughout the Frontier. These are often found buried in the ground, requiring you to use a shovel (automatically equipped when near a trinket location). Collecting all trinkets unlocks a special mission and reveals more about the Native American history of the region.
- Location Clues: Trinkets are usually found near natural landmarks such as large rocks, fallen trees, riverbanks, or small clearings. Keep an eye out for small mounds of dirt or disturbed ground that might indicate a buried item.
- Eagle Vision: While not as brightly highlighted as feathers, Eagle Vision can still help you spot the general area of a trinket. Look for faint shimmers on the ground.
- Sound Cues: As you approach a trinket, you might hear a subtle, high-pitched chime, indicating its proximity.
Strategy: The Frontier is vast, so dividing it into smaller sections for your search is advisable. Ride your horse to cover ground quickly, and dismount to explore on foot when you suspect a trinket is nearby. Many trinkets are located off the main paths, so don't be afraid to venture into the deeper wilderness.
Almanac Pages (Boston, New York)
Almanac Pages are scattered throughout Boston and New York, carried by the wind. There are 36 pages in total, 18 in each city. These pages are unique in that they require a chase sequence to collect. Successfully grabbing all pages unlocks Benjamin Franklin's inventions.
- Boston (18 Pages): Almanac pages in Boston tend to appear in busy areas, often near markets or main thoroughfares. They will float away as you approach.
- New York (18 Pages): New York's pages are similar, appearing in crowded districts. Be prepared for a quick chase through the city's labyrinthine streets and over rooftops.
Strategy: When you see an Almanac Page, immediately begin the chase. Plan your route ahead of time, anticipating where the page will go. Utilize your free-running skills to leap over obstacles and use environmental elements to maintain speed. Don't be afraid to restart the chase if you get too far behind; the page will respawn in its original location.
Chests (Boston, New York, Frontier, Homestead)
Chests contain various rewards, including money, crafting materials, and sometimes unique items. There are numerous chests across all regions, with their contents scaling with your progress. Opening all chests contributes to 100% synchronization.
- Boston, New York, Frontier: These chests are often found in hidden nooks, behind buildings, in alleyways, or within restricted areas. Some may require you to defeat guards to access them.
- Homestead: The Homestead also contains several chests, usually within buildings or around the property. These often contain materials vital for crafting and upgrading your estate.
Strategy: Purchase maps from general stores in each major city. These maps will reveal the locations of all chests in the respective region, making them significantly easier to track down. Always be on the lookout for guards patrolling near chests, as stealthily opening them can be more efficient than a direct confrontation.
Convoys (Frontier)
Convoys are dynamic events that appear randomly in the Frontier. These are groups of Redcoats escorting a cart filled with goods. Intercepting and plundering convoys provides significant income and crafting materials. There are no fixed locations, but they tend to appear on main roads.
- Detection: Convoys are often marked on your mini-map as a moving red icon. You might also hear the sounds of marching or horse hooves as they approach.
- Interception: Ambush convoys from the trees or by hiding in bushes. Take out the guards quickly and then loot the cart.
Strategy: Patrol the main roads of the Frontier, particularly those connecting settlements. Using your horse allows you to cover ground quickly and intercept convoys before they pass. Be prepared for a fight, as convoys are usually well-guarded.
