Legendary Ships: Strategies & Weaknesses
The Legendary Ships in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag represent some of the most challenging naval encounters Edward Kenway will face. These formidable vessels are significantly tougher than standard Man o' Wars and require a strategic approach to overcome. Each Legendary Ship has unique attack patterns and vulnerabilities that must be exploited for victory.
The first Legendary Ship you'll likely encounter is the El Impoluto, a swift and heavily armed brigantine. Its primary strength lies in its speed and its ability to quickly close the distance for devastating broadsides. To counter this, focus on maintaining a safe distance initially. Use your long-range cannons to chip away at its hull and sails. When it attempts to ram, use evasive maneuvers to avoid its charge. Once its speed is somewhat compromised by damaging its sails, you can begin to focus on its broadside cannons.
Another notorious foe is the HMS Prince William. This ship is a behemoth, heavily armored and armed with powerful cannons. Its broadsides are incredibly destructive, capable of sinking the Jackdaw in just a few volleys if you're not careful. The key here is to utilize the environment. Lure it into shallow waters or around islands where its maneuverability is hampered. Focus your attacks on its stern and bow, as these areas are often less armored. When it fires its broadsides, ensure you are angled away or have deployed your diving bell to avoid taking critical damage.
The La Dama Negra is known for its relentless pursuit and its ability to unleash a barrage of mortar fire. This ship excels at keeping you at a distance and bombarding you. To defeat it, you must close the gap. Use storms to your advantage, as they can obscure your approach and provide cover from its mortar attacks. Once within range, focus on disabling its main cannons with precise shots to their barrels. Boarding is often a viable strategy against La Dama Negra, as it allows you to quickly neutralize its crew and secure victory.
Finally, the HMS Fearless and HMS Sprinter, often encountered together, present a dual threat. These ships work in tandem, with the Fearless providing heavy firepower and the Sprinter acting as a fast attacker. The best strategy is to prioritize taking down the Sprinter first. Its speed makes it a nuisance, and its smaller size makes it easier to disable. Once the Sprinter is out of the fight, you can focus your full attention on the Fearless, employing tactics similar to those used against the HMS Prince William.
Remember to keep your own ship, the Jackdaw, well-upgraded. Investing in stronger hull plating, improved cannons, and better sail speed will significantly increase your chances of survival and success against these legendary adversaries.
