Achieving 100% synchronization in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag often hinges on completing the optional objectives presented during main story missions. These objectives range from stealth challenges to specific combat maneuvers and can significantly enhance your gameplay experience by encouraging diverse strategies. Failing an optional objective does not prevent you from progressing through the story, but it will prevent you from reaching full synchronization for that memory. You can always replay memories from the Animus menu to attempt these objectives again.

General Strategies for Optional Objectives

• Read Carefully: Before starting a memory, always check the optional objectives. Knowing them beforehand allows you to plan your approach.
• Stealth First: Many optional objectives revolve around stealth. Prioritize remaining undetected, using cover, and employing non-lethal takedowns or distractions when possible.
• use Tools: Smoke Bombs, Sleep Darts, Berserk Darts, and Pistol shots are invaluable for meeting specific objectives, especially those involving environmental interactions or crowd control.
• Environmental Awareness: Look for opportunities to use the environment to your advantage, such as haystacks, bushes, rooftops, and even explosive barrels.
• Restart Checkpoint: Don't be afraid to use the "Restart Checkpoint" option from the pause menu if you fail an optional objective early in a sequence. This saves time compared to replaying the entire memory.
• Practice Combat: For combat-focused objectives, practice your counter-attacks, disarms, and chain kills in open-world encounters to hone your skills.

Common Optional Objective Types and How to Approach Them

Stealth-Based Objectives

These objectives often require you to remain undetected, avoid open conflict, or perform specific assassinations from hiding spots.

• "Remain Undetected": This is a common objective. Stick to rooftops, bushes, and crowd blending. Use Eagle Vision frequently to mark enemy patrol paths. If spotted, immediately break line of sight and hide to de-aggro.
• "Air Assassinate X Guards": Position yourself above targets, often from rooftops or tree branches. Lure guards into position with whistles if necessary.
• "Perform X Stalking Zone Kills": use tall grass, bushes, and other foliage to hide. Whistle to attract guards into your stalking zone for a silent takedown.
• "Pickpocket X Items": Approach targets from behind while blending or in cover. Ensure no guards are looking directly at you.

Combat-Based Objectives

These objectives test your combat prowess, often requiring specific kill types or avoiding damage.

• "Perform X Counter Kills": When an enemy attacks, press the counter button (e.g., B on Xbox, Circle on PlayStation) at the right moment, then follow up with the attack button. Practice the timing.
• "Perform X Disarms": Counter an enemy attack, then press the disarm button (e.g., A on Xbox, X on PlayStation) to take their weapon. Follow up with a kill using their own weapon for maximum effect.
• "Chain Kill X Enemies": After performing a kill, quickly target another nearby enemy and press the attack button to initiate a chain kill. This requires precise timing and positioning.

• "Use Sleep Darts on X Guards": Equip your Sleep Darts and aim for targets. Remember that sleeping guards can be woken up by others, so consider assassinating them after they're down.
• "Use Berserk Darts on X Guards": Equip your Berserk Darts and hit a guard. The berserked guard will attack allies, creating a distraction or thinning enemy ranks. This is excellent for objectives requiring you to avoid direct conflict.
• "Blow Up X Barrels": Identify explosive barrels in the environment. Lure enemies near them or use a pistol shot to detonate them from a distance.
• "Destroy X Alarm Bells": Locate alarm bells, typically found in enemy camps or forts. Approach them stealthily and interact to disable them before they can be rung.
