The Adrestia, your trusty ship, is more than just a means of travel; it's a vital combat asset and a reflection of your prowess as a Misthios. A strong crew and strategically chosen Lieutenants can turn the tide in even the most challenging naval battles. This section will guide you through acquiring, managing, and optimizing your Adrestia's personnel.

Recruiting Your Crew

Your basic crew will grow naturally as you progress through the main story quests. However, to truly dominate the Aegean, you'll need to recruit specialized Lieutenants. These unique individuals offer powerful passive bonuses and active abilities during naval combat.

Where to Find Lieutenants:

Mercenaries: The most common source of high-quality Lieutenants. Defeat them in combat, then recruit them by interacting with their downed body. Look for Mercenaries with gold or purple rarity for the best stats.
Quest Rewards: Certain side quests and main story missions will reward you with powerful Lieutenants. Pay close attention to quest descriptions for these opportunities. For example, completing the side quest "Crewless" in Chapter 3 will introduce you to Barnabas, a key figure for your ship.
Conquest Battles: Participating in and winning Conquest Battles can sometimes yield high-ranking enemy captains or champions who can be recruited.
Random Encounters: Keep an eye out for unique NPCs in the world, especially those with a gold or purple outline in your Eagle Vision. These can often be recruited after a brief interaction or a quick fight.

Recruitment Strategy:

To recruit an enemy, you must first incapacitate them non-lethally. This can be achieved through:

Sparta Kick: A classic and effective method. Reduce an enemy's health significantly, then use the Sparta Kick ability to knock them out.
Paralyzing Arrows: Equip Paralyzing Arrows (craftable or found) and shoot enemies until they are incapacitated. This is particularly useful for ranged enemies or when you want to avoid direct melee.
Fists: Simply unequip your weapon and use bare-handed attacks to knock out enemies. This is a reliable method for lower-level targets.

Once an enemy is incapacitated, approach them and press the designated recruit button (e.g., Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox, E on PC). You'll see their stats and bonuses before confirming the recruitment.

Managing Lieutenants

You can manage your Lieutenants from the Adrestia menu. Navigate to the "Ship" tab and then select "Lieutenants."

Lieutenant Slots:

Initially, you'll have a limited number of Lieutenant slots. These can be expanded by upgrading your ship's "Hull" at a Shipyard. Prioritize Hull upgrades to maximize your Lieutenant capacity.

Lieutenant Rarity and Bonuses:

Lieutenants come in different rarities, indicated by their color:

Common (Grey): Basic bonuses, often minor.
Rare (Blue): Improved bonuses.
Epic (Purple): Significant bonuses, often with multiple effects.
Legendary (Gold): The best Lieutenants, offering powerful and unique bonuses, sometimes with active abilities.

Each Lieutenant provides passive bonuses to your ship, such as increased ramming damage, arrow damage, javelin damage, or hull durability. Legendary Lieutenants often have unique active abilities that can be triggered during naval combat, like a temporary speed boost or a burst of healing.

Assigning Lieutenants:

Carefully consider the bonuses each Lieutenant provides and assign them to your active slots based on your preferred naval combat style. For example:

If you favor aggressive ramming tactics, prioritize Lieutenants with "Ramming Damage" bonuses.
If you prefer ranged combat, look for Lieutenants who boost "Arrow Damage" or "Javelin Damage."
For increased survivability, assign Lieutenants with "Hull Durability" or "Crew Health" bonuses.

Upgrading Your Ship

While Lieutenants provide crucial bonuses, the core of your naval strength comes from upgrading the Adrestia itself. Visit any Shipyard (marked with a ship icon on your map) to access the upgrade menu.

Key Ship Upgrades:

Hull: Increases the Adrestia's health and unlocks additional Lieutenant slots. Essential for survivability and crew capacity.
Arrows: Boosts the damage of your arrow volleys.
Javelins: Increases the damage of your javelin throws.
Ram: Enhances the damage dealt by ramming enemy ships.
Fire Braziers: Allows your crew to light arrows and javelins on fire, dealing damage over time.
Crew Stamina: Improves the stamina of your crew, allowing them to row faster and perform actions more frequently.

Upgrades require Drachmae and various crafting materials such as Wood, Iron, Leather, and Obsidian Glass. Dismantle unwanted gear, loot enemy ships, and clear fortresses to gather these resources efficiently.

Naval Combat Tips

With a strong crew and upgraded Adrestia, you'll be ready to dominate the seas. Here are some tactical tips:

Ramming: Use your ram to deal massive damage, especially to smaller ships. Aim for the broadside of enemy vessels for critical hits.
Arrow Volleys & Javelins: Use these for sustained damage, especially against larger ships or when you need to keep your distance. Fire Braziers are excellent for applying burn damage.
Bracing: When an enemy ship is about to ram you or unleash a volley, brace your crew to reduce incoming damage.
Boarding: Once an enemy ship is heavily damaged, you can choose to board it. This initiates a close-quarters combat sequence where you can defeat the remaining crew and claim valuable loot, including potential Lieutenants.
Legendary Lieutenants' Abilities: activate your Legendary Lieutenants' unique abilities during critical moments in battle.
