Endings & Choices
Assassin's Creed Odyssey offers a rich narrative tapestry woven with player choices, culminating in nine distinct endings. These endings are primarily determined by key decisions made throughout the main story arc, particularly concerning the fate of your immediate family members: Myrrine, Nikolaos, Stentor, and Deimos. This guide will help you navigate these pivotal moments to achieve your desired outcome.
Understanding the Family Tree
The core of Odyssey's endings revolves around the survival or demise of your family. There are seven critical choices that directly impact who lives and who dies. Keeping all four family members alive will unlock the "Best Ending" (also known as the "Family Ending"), while various combinations of their fates lead to other conclusions. Conversely, allowing all of them to perish results in the "Worst Ending."
Key Decisions for Family Survival
The following choices are paramount. Pay close attention to the dialogue options and their immediate consequences:
1. Nikolaos, the Wolf of Sparta
- Quest: "A Wolf's Life" (Chapter 2)
- Location: Megaris
- Choice: After defeating Nikolaos, you will have a crucial dialogue option.
- To Save Nikolaos: Choose "You deserve to live." or "Walk away from him." This allows him to leave Sparta and potentially return later.
- To Kill Nikolaos: Choose "This is your end." or "Kill him." This will remove him from the story permanently.
- Consequence: Saving Nikolaos is essential for the Family Ending. If he lives, he will reappear in the quest "The Wolf of Sparta" in Chapter 7.
2. Stentor, the Wolf's Adopted Son
- Quest: "The Wolf of Sparta" (Chapter 7)
- Location: Phokis
- Prerequisite: Nikolaos must have been spared in "A Wolf's Life."
- Choice: When you encounter Stentor, he will be furious.
- To Save Stentor: If Nikolaos is present and alive, he will intervene, preventing a fight to the death. You must not choose to fight Stentor.
- To Kill Stentor: If Nikolaos is dead, or if you choose to fight Stentor, you will kill him.
- Consequence: Stentor's survival is tied to Nikolaos's presence. Ensure Nikolaos is alive and present to avoid conflict.
3. Myrrine, Your Mother
- Quest: "A Bloody Feast" (Chapter 7)
- Location: Sparta
- Choice: During the confrontation with Kleon and the Spartan Kings, Myrrine's life is at stake.
- To Save Myrrine: You must successfully defend her from the Spartan guards and ensure Kleon is dealt with. Dialogue choices here are less impactful than your actions in combat.
- To Kill Myrrine: Failing to protect her during the fight, or making certain aggressive dialogue choices towards the Spartan Kings, can lead to her death.
- Consequence: Myrrine's survival is non-negotiable for the Family Ending.
4. Deimos, Your Sibling
Deimos's fate is the most complex and hinges on a series of choices made across multiple chapters. Your goal is to consistently show compassion and attempt to bring them back from the Cult's influence.
Key Deimos Choices:
- "A Fresh Start" (Chapter 3): When you first meet Deimos, choose "It's not too late for you."
- "The Battle of Pylos" (Chapter 7): When you are captured and taken to the prison, choose "Hold on!" when Deimos is about to throw you into the pit.
- "A Bloody Feast" (Chapter 7): During the confrontation with Myrrine and the Spartan Kings, choose "Stay with me!" when Deimos is being manipulated.
- "Doing Time" (Chapter 7): While imprisoned, choose "The Cult is using you." and then "I will get you out of here."
- "Where We Belong" (Chapter 7): When you confront Deimos on the cliff, choose "I don't want to fight you." or "You don't have to do this."
- "A Reckoning" (Chapter 9): This is the final, critical choice.
- To Save Deimos: You must have made all previous compassionate choices. When Deimos is pinned under the rubble, choose "Come with me." or "You belong with us."
- To Kill Deimos: If you made aggressive choices earlier, or if you choose "Fight me, Deimos!" or "Die, Deimos!", you will be forced to kill them.
Important Note: If you fail to convince Deimos to break free from the Cult, they will attack you during "A Reckoning," forcing you to kill them, regardless of your final dialogue choice.
Achieving the "Best Ending" (Family Ending)
To unlock the most fulfilling conclusion where all four family members are reunited, you must ensure the following:
- Nikolaos: Spared in "A Wolf's Life."
- Stentor: Spared in "The Wolf of Sparta" (by Nikolaos's intervention).
- Myrrine: Saved in "A Bloody Feast."
- Deimos: Convinced to abandon the Cult and saved in "A Reckoning" by consistently showing compassion throughout the story.
If all these conditions are met, the final cutscene will show your family together at your home in Sparta, offering a sense of peace and closure.
Other Endings
Any deviation from the steps above will lead to one of the other eight endings. These can range from bittersweet (e.g., some family members survive, others don't) to tragic (e.g., only You character survives, or the "Worst Ending" where everyone dies). Experimenting with choices on subsequent playthroughs can reveal these different narrative paths.
Post-Ending Content
Regardless of your chosen ending, the game allows you to continue exploring the world, completing side quests, and engaging in the Cult of Kosmos storyline and the Atlantis DLC. The ending primarily affects the final cutscene and the availability of certain family members in your ship's crew or as interactable NPCs in the post-game world.
