World Map & Regions

The vast and beautiful world of Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a sprawling tapestry of ancient Greece, divided into numerous distinct regions, each with its own challenges, secrets, and opportunities. Understanding the world map and how to navigate its various territories is crucial for any Misthios looking to make their mark.

Navigating the Map

Your world map (accessible via the touchpad on PlayStation 4 or corresponding button on other platforms) is your most invaluable tool. It displays:

  • Unexplored Areas: Shrouded in a fog of war, these areas require physical exploration to reveal their details.
  • Synchronize Points: Eagle icons indicate synchronization points. Reaching and interacting with these points reveals a large portion of the surrounding map, acts as a fast travel destination, and provides a beautiful panoramic view. Prioritize synchronizing whenever possible.
  • Points of Interest: Question marks (?) denote undiscovered locations like caves, camps, ruins, and treasure chests. Approaching these locations will convert the question mark into a specific icon.
  • Quests: Gold diamond icons indicate main story quests, while white diamond icons represent side quests. Board quests and bounties are typically found on notice boards in towns.
  • Mercenary Icons: Helmets with horns indicate the current location of high-ranking mercenaries, often targets for bounties or those hunting you.

Actionable Tip: When entering a new region, your first priority should always be to locate and synchronize with all available synchronization points. This not only clears the map but also provides essential fast travel options, saving you countless hours of travel time later on.

Region-Specific Strategies & Loot

Each region in Greece has a recommended level range, indicated on the map. Venturing into regions significantly above your current level is highly discouraged, as enemies will be much tougher and deal significantly more damage. However, some early-game regions offer valuable resources and early-game gear if approached strategically.

Kephallonia Islands

Your starting region, Kephallonia, is a relatively safe zone, ideal for learning the game's mechanics. Focus on:

  • Early Gear: Complete quests like "A Debt to Pay" to acquire the Kephallonian Spear and the Kephallonian Bow. These are solid early-game weapons.
  • Resource Gathering: The island is rich in Iron Ore and Wood, essential for early ship upgrades and gear engravings. Look for glowing veins and trees.
  • Cultist Clue: Don't miss the opportunity to find your first Cultist clue here during the main story questline, leading to the elimination of the first Cultist of Kosmos.

Megaris

The first major conflict zone you'll encounter, Megaris is crucial for understanding the conquest battle system. Pay attention to:

  • Conquest Battles: Participating in these large-scale battles (either for Athens or Sparta) is an excellent way to earn XP, Drachmae, and epic gear. Look for the large red or blue battle icons on the map.
  • Leader House Raids: Weakening the region's leader by completing objectives like raiding the Leader House in Megara or destroying supplies in various forts will make conquest battles easier and yield valuable Orichalcum Ore from chests.
  • "The Wolf of Sparta" Quest: This main quest will guide you through the region's mechanics and introduce you to key characters.

Phokis

Home to the Sanctuary of Delphi, Phokis is a pivotal region for the main storyline and introduces you to the Cult of Kosmos more directly.

  • Cultist Hunting: This region is where you'll begin actively tracking down Cultists. Pay close attention to environmental clues and quest dialogue. The Serpent's Lair is a key location here.
  • Legendary Chests: Keep an eye out for legendary chests, often found in heavily guarded forts or ancient ruins. One notable chest in Phokis can be found in the Temple of the Golden Bow, often containing a piece of the Pilgrim's Set.
  • Orichalcum Ore: Phokis has several reliable spots for Orichalcum, particularly around the northern mountainous areas and within the Grand Mount Parnassos Cave.

General Strategy: Always check the recommended level for a region before committing to extensive exploration. Use your eagle, Ikaros, to scout ahead for enemy patrols, treasure chests, and points of interest. This reconnaissance is vital for planning your approach, especially in heavily guarded areas.
