Crafting & Resources
Mastering the art of crafting and resource management is paramount to your success as a Misthios in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. This detailed guide will walk you through efficient resource gathering, upgrading your gear, and enhancing your ship, the Adrestia.
Resource Gathering: The Lifeblood of Your Journey
The world of Ancient Greece is rich with materials, but knowing where and how to find them efficiently will save you countless hours. Prioritize these methods:
- Wood: The most common resource, essential for ship upgrades.
- Source: Chop down trees found almost everywhere. Look for clusters of trees, especially in forested regions like Phokis or the central plains of Attika.
- Strategy: While riding your horse, simply swing your weapon when near trees to automatically gather wood. This is the fastest method.
- Iron Metal: Crucial for upgrading weapons and armor, and also for ship enhancements.
- Source: Mine iron veins found in caves, rocky outcrops, and sometimes within enemy forts.
- Strategy: Keep an eye out for sparkling ore veins. Caves, particularly those marked on your map or encountered during quests in regions like Argolis, often contain multiple veins. Dismantling unwanted common (grey) and rare (blue) gear also yields a significant amount of Iron Metal.
- Leather: Primarily used for upgrading armor and some ship components.
- Source: Hunt animals. Wolves, bears, boars, and deer are abundant across Greece.
- Strategy: Focus on hunting larger animals like bears or boars for higher yields. Areas like the forests of Megaris or the wildlands of Korinthia are excellent hunting grounds.
- Obsidian Glass: A rarer and more valuable resource, vital for high-tier gear and ship upgrades.
- Source: Found in specific, often more dangerous locations like bandit camps, fortresses, and sometimes as loot from elite enemies.
- Strategy: Always loot every chest and defeated enemy in forts and camps. Dismantling epic (purple) gear is a reliable way to acquire Obsidian Glass.
- Precious Gems: The rarest and most valuable resource, essential for the most powerful upgrades.
- Source: Primarily obtained from dismantling legendary (gold) gear, completing certain quests, and looting high-level chests in heavily guarded areas.
- Strategy: Legendary gear, once acquired, can be dismantled if its perks don't align with your build, providing a substantial amount of Precious Gems. Prioritize completing main story quests and side quests that reward legendary items.
Upgrading Your Gear: Becoming a Legendary Misthios
Your weapons and armor are your primary tools for survival. Regularly upgrading them at a Blacksmith is crucial to keeping pace with enemy levels.
- Locating a Blacksmith: Blacksmiths are found in almost every major town and city across Greece, easily identified by their hammer icon on the map.
- The Upgrade Process:
- Approach a Blacksmith and select the "Upgrade" option.
- Choose the weapon or armor piece you wish to upgrade.
- The cost in Drachmae and required resources (Iron Metal, Leather, Obsidian Glass, Precious Gems) will be displayed.
- Confirm the upgrade. The item's stats will increase to match your current level.
- Engraving: Beyond simple upgrades, Blacksmiths can also engrave your gear, adding powerful statistical bonuses.
- Unlocking Engravings: Engravings are unlocked by completing specific challenges, finding Ainigmata Ostraka, or reaching certain mastery levels with weapon types.
- Applying Engravings: Select an item at the Blacksmith, choose "Engrave," and pick an available engraving. Each engraving costs Drachmae and some resources. You can overwrite existing engravings.
Upgrading the Adrestia: Your Naval Powerhouse
Your ship, the Adrestia, is more than just transport; it's a formidable weapon. Investing in its upgrades will make naval combat significantly easier and more rewarding.
- Accessing Ship Upgrades: Interact with Barnabas on the Adrestia or visit any Shipyard (marked by a ship icon on the map).
- Key Ship Upgrades:
- Hull: Increases the Adrestia's health. Prioritize this early on to survive longer in naval battles. Requires Wood and Iron Metal.
- Arrows: Enhances the damage and quantity of your arrow volleys. Essential for ranged naval combat. Requires Wood and Iron Metal.
- Javelins: Improves javelin damage and quantity. Great for close-range ship-to-ship combat. Requires Wood and Iron Metal.
- Ram: Increases ramming damage. A devastating tactic for quickly sinking enemy ships. Requires Wood and Iron Metal.
- Fire Arrows/Javelins: Unlocks and upgrades incendiary projectiles, adding powerful damage over time effects. Requires Obsidian Glass and Precious Gems for higher tiers.
- Crew Stamina: Increases the Adrestia's boost duration. Useful for escaping or closing distances quickly. Requires Leather.
- Armor: Reduces incoming damage. A good defensive upgrade. Requires Wood and Iron Metal.
- Recruiting Lieutenants: Beyond direct upgrades, recruiting powerful Lieutenants (found throughout your journey, often after completing quests or defeating mercenaries) significantly boosts your ship's stats and provides unique perks. Assign them in the Adrestia's upgrade menu.
