Farming Locations & Methods
In the vast world of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, resources are key to upgrading your gear, ship, and unlocking powerful engravings. While exploration naturally yields many materials, targeted farming can significantly accelerate your progress. This section details efficient methods and prime locations for acquiring specific resources.
Drachmae Farming: The Mercenary's Path
Drachmae, the currency of ancient Greece, is essential for purchasing new gear, upgrading existing items, and paying off bounties. While completing quests and selling unwanted gear are steady sources, some methods offer a more lucrative return.
- Mercenary Bounties: Actively hunt down and defeat higher-ranked mercenaries. Each defeated mercenary drops a substantial amount of Drachmae and valuable gear.
- Strategy: Keep an eye on the "Mercenaries" tab in your menu. Prioritize targets with higher tiers as they offer better rewards. Engaging multiple mercenaries at once, especially in open combat, can be risky but highly rewarding. Utilize abilities like Hero Strike and Ring of Chaos for crowd control and burst damage.
- Location: Mercenaries roam throughout the entire world. However, focusing on areas where you have a high bounty will often attract more of them to your location, creating a continuous stream of targets.
- Conquest Battles: Participating in Conquest Battles, particularly on the attacking side, can yield a good amount of Drachmae and epic gear.
- Strategy: Always choose the attacking side for a Conquest Battle, as these typically offer better rewards. Focus on eliminating captains and high-value targets quickly to contribute to your side's victory and maximize your personal loot.
- Location: Look for red and blue flags clashing on the world map, indicating an ongoing Conquest Battle.
- Selling Excess Gear: Regularly visit blacksmiths to sell any unwanted common, rare, or even epic gear you acquire. While individual items might not fetch much, their cumulative value adds up quickly.
Resource Farming: Wood, Iron, Leather, and Precious Gems
These core resources are vital for upgrading your weapons, armor, and the Adrestia. Knowing where to find them in abundance will save you countless hours.
Wood & Iron Metal
Wood and Iron Metal are the most common crafting materials. They are found almost everywhere, but some spots are particularly rich.
- Shipwrecks: Underwater shipwrecks are fantastic sources of both Wood and Iron Metal. Each shipwreck often contains multiple chests and resource nodes.
- Strategy: Equip gear with Breath underwater engravings (e.g., from the Pirate Set) or the Poseidon's Trident legendary spear to explore shipwrecks without worrying about oxygen. Use Ikaros to scout for underwater treasure icons.
- Location: The waters around Messara, Pephka, and the Obsidian Islands are particularly rich in shipwrecks. The area south of Samos also has several easily accessible wrecks.
- Forts & Camps: Enemy forts and camps are excellent for Iron Metal, often found in weapon racks and chests. Wood can sometimes be found in crates.
- Strategy: Clear out forts stealthily to maximize your loot and minimize combat. Use Ikaros to tag all resource containers before engaging.
- Location: Any large fort, such as the Fort of Xerxes in Attika or the Fort of Lykaon in Lakonia, will have a high concentration of Iron Metal.
- Forests & Mountains: Wood can be harvested from trees in forests, and Iron Metal from mineral veins in mountainous regions.
- Strategy: Ride your horse through dense forests, collecting wood as you go. For Iron, focus on rocky, elevated terrain.
- Location: The forests of Phokis and Elis are good for wood. The mountainous areas of Macedonia and Arkadia are rich in iron veins.
Leather & Precious Gems
Leather is primarily obtained from animals, while Precious Gems are rarer and found in specific locations.
- Hunting Animals for Leather: Hunting is the most direct way to get leather.
- Strategy: Target large groups of animals. Boars, bears, and wolves provide significant amounts of leather. Use your bow for quick kills from a distance. The Devastating Shot ability can one-shot many animals.
- Location: The forests of Phokis (especially around the Grand Mount Parnassos) and the plains of Elis are teeming with wildlife. The Bear Den of Arktos in Phokis is a prime spot for bear hunting.
- Precious Gem Veins: These sparkling nodes are less common but yield valuable gems.
- Strategy: Precious Gem veins are often found in caves, tombs, and sometimes near ancient ruins. Always check every corner of these locations.
- Location: Explore the numerous caves in Attika, Boeotia, and the Silver Mine in Attika (though this is more for Obsidian Glass, it often has gem veins too). Tombs, like the Tomb of the First Champion in Makedonia, are also reliable sources.
Obsidian Glass & Ancient Tablets
These rarer materials are crucial for high-level upgrades and engravings.
- Obsidian Glass: Primarily found in mines and specific resource nodes.
- Strategy: Mines are your best bet. Clear out the enemies within and thoroughly search every tunnel.
- Location: The Silver Mine in Attika is a fantastic, repeatable source of Obsidian Glass. The Marble Quarry in Lakonia also contains a good amount.
- Ancient Tablets: These are exclusively found in ancient tombs.
- Strategy: Explore every tomb you encounter. Each tomb typically contains 2-4 Ancient Tablets.
- Location: There are over 40 tombs scattered across Greece. Prioritize exploring tombs in regions you haven't fully cleared yet. A good starting point is the Tomb of Brizo in Messara or the Tomb of the First Champion in Makedonia.
Orichalcum Ore: The Oikos of Olympus
Orichalcum Ore is a unique currency used to purchase rare and legendary items from the Oikos of Olympus merchant. It cannot be farmed in the traditional sense but is acquired through specific activities.
- Contracts & Bounties: Complete the daily and weekly contracts and bounties available on message boards in towns and at the Adrestia. These are the most consistent source.
- Strategy: Always check message boards when you enter a new town or return to your ship. Prioritize contracts that offer Orichalcum as a reward.
- Specific Quests & World Events: Some side quests and unique world events will reward you with Orichalcum. Keep an eye out for blue Orichalcum icons on your map.
- Location: The Oikos of Olympus merchant can be found in Phokis, near the Sanctuary of Delphi. His inventory rotates weekly, so check back often for new legendary gear and cosmetic items.
By utilizing these targeted farming strategies and knowing where to look, you'll quickly amass the resources needed to become the most formidable misthios in all of Greece!
