Navigation & Exploration
Navigating the vast and beautiful world of Ancient Egypt is a core part of your journey as Bayek. Mastering the various movement and exploration mechanics will ensure you traverse the landscape efficiently and uncover all its hidden secrets.
Mounts and Auto-Travel
Your trusty mount is indispensable for covering long distances. Not only does it get you from point A to point B faster, but it also offers convenient auto-travel features:
- Setting a Custom Waypoint: Open your map and place a custom waypoint at your desired destination.
- Initiating Auto-Ride: While on your mount, hold the X button (on PlayStation controllers) or the equivalent button on your platform to engage cruise control. Bayek will automatically follow the roads towards your waypoint.
- Senu Scouting: The true power of auto-ride lies in its synergy with Senu. Once Bayek is on auto-pilot, you can switch to Senu (press Up on the D-Pad) and fly freely. Use Senu to scout ahead, mark enemies, identify points of interest, or simply enjoy the aerial view while Bayek continues his journey. This is an excellent strategy for clearing out enemy camps or locating quest objectives before Bayek even arrives.
Combat on Horseback
Mounted combat is a powerful tool, especially against groups of weaker enemies or when pursuing targets:
- 360-Degree Aiming: While riding your mount, hold L1 (on PlayStation controllers, assuming legacy controls) to rotate your view and aim in any direction, allowing you to shoot arrows or swing weapons at enemies all around you without having to dismount. This is particularly effective for crowd control or picking off archers from a distance.
Stealth & Tactical Advantages
As an Assassin, stealth and strategic thinking are paramount. Utilize the environment and Bayek's unique abilities to gain the upper hand in any encounter.
Environmental Interactions
The world of Origins is full of interactive elements that can be turned to your advantage:
- Booby-Trapping Signal Torches: Many enemy camps feature signal torches that guards will attempt to light to call for reinforcements. Before they can do so, approach a torch and interact with it to booby-trap it. When an enemy attempts to light it, they'll be met with a fiery explosion, often eliminating them and preventing the alarm from being raised. This is a highly effective way to thin out enemy numbers discreetly.
- Torch Utility: Your torch isn't just for lighting dark areas. You can drop your torch (press Down on the D-Pad, then R2/RT) and then light an arrow from its flame. This creates a flaming arrow, perfect for igniting oil jars, hay bales, or setting enemies ablaze for extra damage.
Character Customization & Aesthetics
Bayek's appearance can be customized to your liking, allowing you to personalize your journey through Egypt.
Hair and Beard Options
You can adjust Bayek's hair and beard style at any time:
- Accessing Options: Go to your Gear page in the main menu.
- Toggling Styles: While on the Gear page, use the triggers (L2/R2 or LT/RT) and the Triangle button (Y on Xbox) to cycle through different hair and beard options. One trigger typically controls hair, while the other controls the beard, allowing for various combinations.
