Exploration & Discovery Tips
The vast and ancient lands of Egypt in Assassin's Creed Origins are brimming with secrets, hidden treasures, and breathtaking vistas. To truly master its exploration, you'll need a keen eye, a trusty mount, and a strategic approach. This section will guide you through maximizing your discovery, from uncovering every question mark to delving into the historical depths of the Discovery Tour.
Unveiling the Map: Synchronizing & Scouting
Your primary tool for revealing the world is synchronization. Scale the highest points – statues, temples, and especially the iconic pyramids – to unfog sections of your map and mark points of interest. While this reveals many locations, a more granular approach is needed for complete discovery.
- Eagle Vision (Senu): Your loyal eagle, Senu, is indispensable for scouting. From a high vantage point, command Senu to fly over unexplored areas. Senu can tag enemies, identify treasure chests, and most importantly, pinpoint smaller points of interest like animal lairs, hermit locations, and hidden entrances that might otherwise go unnoticed. Regularly use Senu to sweep areas around your current objective or before entering a new region.
- Question Marks: These are your bread and butter for discovery. Every question mark represents an undiscovered location, be it a bandit camp, a tomb, a hidden oasis, or a historical site. Prioritize clearing these out as you move through a region. Many contain valuable loot, side quests, or even unique gear.
- Hermit Locations: Seek out these secluded spots. Synchronizing at a Hermit Location not only reveals a small portion of the map but also grants you a permanent +1 Ability Point, making them incredibly valuable for character progression. There are five such locations across Egypt, often found in remote, high-altitude areas like the White Desert Oasis or the mountains of the Black Desert.
Tomb Raiding & Ancient Mechanisms
Egypt's ancient tombs are not just filled with danger, but also with invaluable resources and lore. Many tombs feature intricate puzzles and hidden passages.
- Light the Way: Tombs are often dark. Always have your torch ready (press and hold down on the D-pad/G key). Not only does it illuminate your path, but it can also be used to burn cobwebs blocking passages or ignite flammable materials.
- Hidden Passages: Look for cracked walls, loose stones, or subtle changes in texture. Sometimes, a well-placed arrow or a melee attack can reveal a secret room. Pay attention to the environment; ancient Egyptians were masters of concealment.
- Ancient Tablets: Within many tombs, you'll find Ancient Tablets. Interacting with these provides a small amount of XP and often reveals a piece of lore. More importantly, collecting a certain number of these tablets is crucial for unlocking the secrets of the Ancient Mechanisms.
- Silica: This glowing, crystalline material is vital for activating the Ancient Mechanisms. It's typically found in small quantities scattered throughout tombs, often in hidden nooks or behind breakable walls. Prioritize collecting every piece you see.
The Discovery Tour: A Journey Through History
For those who wish to delve deeper into the historical context of ancient Egypt, the Discovery Tour offers a unique, combat-free experience. This mode allows you to explore the world at your leisure, guided by expert historians.
- Accessing the Tour: The Discovery Tour is accessible directly from the main menu. You can choose from various guided tours focusing on different aspects of Egyptian life, architecture, and history.

- No Combat, Pure Exploration: In Discovery Tour mode, enemies are removed, and you cannot engage in combat. This allows for uninterrupted exploration and appreciation of the meticulously recreated historical settings. It's an excellent way to revisit areas you've already cleared in the main game and learn more about them.
- Notable Tours: Don't miss the "Tour of the Pyramids" which offers an in-depth look at the construction and purpose of these monumental structures, including the Great Pyramid of Giza. Another highlight is the "Life in Alexandria" tour, showcasing the vibrant cultural hub of the ancient world.
Isfet and the Secrets of the Ancients
Beyond the immediate rewards of exploration, there's a deeper mystery tied to the Ancient Mechanisms and the pursuit of Isfet. These are late-game discoveries that offer unique rewards.
- Ancient Mechanisms: These are colossal, dormant structures found in specific locations across Egypt, such as the one beneath the Great Sphinx. To activate them, you'll need a significant amount of Silica, collected from tombs. Each activated mechanism reveals a piece of a larger narrative and grants you a powerful Isu-themed outfit, like the Isu Armor from the Season Pass.
- The Great Sphinx: This iconic landmark is more than just a photo opportunity. Beneath it lies one of the most significant Ancient Mechanisms. To access it, you'll need to have completed all Stone Circles and collected a substantial amount of Silica.
- The Isu Armor: This legendary outfit is a prime example of the rewards for thorough exploration. It's acquired by activating the Ancient Mechanism beneath the Great Sphinx, after completing the "A Gift from the Gods" quest and collecting the necessary Silica. This armor provides unique stat bonuses and a distinct aesthetic.
By following these tips, you'll not only uncover every secret Egypt has to offer but also gain a deeper appreciation for its rich history and the intricate world Ubisoft has crafted.
