Crowd Events

Paris in 1789 is a city teeming with life, and sometimes, that life spills over into dynamic, spontaneous events that demand Arno Dorian's attention. These "Crowd Events" are mini-missions that pop up as you traverse the city, offering quick bursts of action, small rewards, and a chance to hone your skills. They are an excellent way to earn some extra Livres, gain Sync Points, and maintain a low profile by helping the populace.

Types of Crowd Events

There are several distinct types of Crowd Events you'll encounter. Recognizing them quickly will help you react effectively.

  • Thief Interceptions: These are perhaps the most common. You'll see a thief icon appear on your mini-map, often accompanied by a visual cue of a civilian shouting or a purse being snatched.
  • Citizen Assists: These involve helping distressed citizens, often from aggressive guards or thugs. Look for a "help" icon or a group of people being harassed.
  • Guard Interventions: Less frequent, but sometimes you'll find guards unjustly attacking civilians. Intervening can improve your standing with the local populace.

General Strategies for Success

While each event type has its nuances, some overarching strategies apply to all Crowd Events:

  • Stay Alert: Keep an eye on your mini-map for event icons and listen for audio cues like shouts or screams. Events can appear and disappear quickly if you don't engage.
  • Prioritize Stealth (When Possible): For Thief Interceptions, a stealthy approach can often lead to a quicker resolution. For combat-oriented events, assessing the situation from a rooftop can give you an advantage.
  • Utilize Parkour: Quick navigation is key. Use Arno's fluid parkour abilities to close distances rapidly, especially when chasing a thief or rushing to aid a citizen.
  • Weapon Choice: For combat events, ensure you have a reliable one-handed weapon like the Pistol Sword or a heavy weapon like the Heavy Falchion equipped, depending on your preferred combat style. For non-lethal takedowns, your hidden blade is always an option.

Specific Walkthroughs for Crowd Events

1. Thief Interceptions

These events require speed and precision. The goal is to tackle the thief and recover the stolen goods without killing them.

  1. Identification: A small red thief icon will appear on your mini-map, and you'll often hear a civilian cry out, "Stop him! My purse!" or similar.
  2. Initiation: Sprint towards the thief. They will usually be running away from the victim.
  3. The Chase:
    • Pathfinding: Anticipate the thief's route. They often stick to main thoroughfares but can occasionally duck into alleys or climb low obstacles.
    • Obstacle Avoidance: Use your parkour skills to vault over obstacles or slide under them without losing momentum.
    • Crowd Navigation: Weave through the dense Parisian crowds. Avoid bumping into too many civilians, as this slows you down.
  4. Takedown:
    • Tackle (Recommended): Once you are close enough, press the Circle/B button (PS4/Xbox One) to tackle the thief. This is the cleanest and most reliable method.
    • Air Assassination (Situational): If the thief climbs onto a low roof or obstacle, you might be able to perform a non-lethal air assassination (tackle from above).
    • Pistol Shot (Last Resort): While not ideal for a non-lethal objective, a well-aimed pistol shot can stun a fleeing thief, allowing you to catch up. However, this carries a higher risk of accidental civilian casualties or attracting unwanted guard attention.
  5. Reward: Successfully tackling the thief will immediately return the stolen item to the civilian, granting you Livres and a small amount of Sync Points.

2. Citizen Assists

These events involve protecting civilians from hostile groups, typically guards or thugs.

  1. Identification: Look for a "help" icon on your mini-map, often accompanied by the sounds of a struggle or shouts for help. You'll usually see a group of 2-4 enemies attacking one or more unarmed civilians.
  2. Approach:
    • Stealthy Engagement: If possible, approach from a rooftop or a hidden position. Use Phantom Blades or Berserk Blades to thin out the enemy ranks before engaging in open combat.
    • Direct Confrontation: If stealth isn't an option, rush in to draw the enemies' attention away from the civilians.
  3. Combat:
    • Prioritize Threats: Focus on enemies with firearms first, as they can quickly dispatch civilians.
    • Crowd Control: Use area-of-effect abilities if you have them, or parry/dodge effectively to manage multiple attackers.
    • Protect Civilians: Position yourself between the enemies and the civilians to draw aggro.
  4. Reward: Once all aggressors are defeated, the civilians will thank you, and you'll receive Livres and Sync Points. Sometimes, they may even offer a small, unique dialogue.

3. Guard Interventions

These are similar to Citizen Assists but specifically involve guards acting aggressively towards unarmed citizens.

  1. Identification: A "help" icon will appear, but the aggressors will clearly be identifiable as French Guards or other official military personnel.
  2. Approach & Engagement:
    • Consider Notoriety: Attacking guards will increase your notoriety. If you're trying to stay anonymous, use stealth takedowns or distractions like Smoke Bombs to neutralize them without being seen.
    • Open Combat: If you're prepared for a fight and don't mind the notoriety, engage directly. Guards are generally better equipped than common thugs.
  3. Combat Strategy:
    • Disarm: If facing multiple guards, consider using the "Disarm" skill to take away their weapons and turn them against their comrades.
    • Environmental Kills: Look for opportunities to use environmental hazards, such as dropping chandeliers or exploding barrels, to take out groups of guards efficiently.
  4. Reward: Successfully protecting the citizens will grant you Livres and Sync Points. Be mindful of the increased notoriety if you engaged in open combat.
